Denis Berinchyk vs Sam Noakes Preview August 29th, 2026
Former WBO Lightweight Champion Denis Berinchyk of Ukraine travels to London, England this Saturday, August, 29th to take on local lad Sam Noakes. The 10-round lightweight battle can be seen live in most nations on DAZN pay-per-view on the undercard of the Filip Hrgovic vs Moses Itauma fight. Berinchyk last fought in February, 2025 when he he was stopped in the fourth round by Keyshawn Davis to lose his WBO Lightweight Belt. Berinchyk beat Emanuel Navarrete via a split decision to win the vacant WBO World Title in May, 2024. Navarrete was the reigning WBO Super Featherweight Champion who moved up in weight against Berinchyk in an attempt to win a title belt in a fourth weight division. Noakes last saw action in May when he halted Benito Sanchez Garcia in the second round. In his previous outing in November, Noakes fought for the vacant WBO Lightweight Belt against Abdullah Mason but dropped a relatively close and hard-fought unanimous decision.

The 38-year-old Berinchyk climbs into the ring with an impressive mark of 19-1 with 9 Ko’s and has boxed 158 rounds since making his pro debut back in 2015. He measures 5-feet-7-inches tall with a 68-inch reach. As far as his power is concerned, he’s not considered to be a heavy hitter as just 47.4 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage and he has gone the distance in seven of his last 10 outings.
Berinchyk enjoyed an extensive and successful amateur career and also fought in the World Series of Boxing. He represented his homeland at the 2012 Olympics and the 2011 World Championships and won a silver medal at each competition as a light-welterweight. Berinchyk also has experience in professional bare knuckle boxing. He earned a PhD in physical education and sport from the National University of Ukraine and captured a gold medal at the 2010 World University Boxing Championships and a bronze at the 2013 World University Games.
As a pro he’s also won the vacant WBO Oriental Lightweight Title and has defended the WBO International Belt eight times. His biggest wins have been against Navarrete, Anthony Yigit, Yvan Mendy, Isa Chaniev, Jose Sanchez, Nihito Arakawa, Ismael Garcia and Lorenzo Parra so he’s got experience against some good boxers on his record. Berinchyk has been out of action for well over a year as he’s been recovering from shoulder surgeries.
As for Noakes, he’s 28 years old and has 94 rounds of experience under his belt since turning pro in 2019. He makes the ring walk with a fine 18-1 record with 16 Ko’s. He also enjoyed a fine amateur career as he won the 2019 England Boxing National Amateur Championships as a light welterweight and reportedly won 47 of 53 bouts. He measures 5-feet-8-inches tall with a 74-inch reach is an inch taller than Berinchyk and has a six-inch edge in reach. He possesses very good power in his arsenal as 88.9 per cent of his victories have come by stoppage.
He has gone the distance just three times as a pro. Noakes was taken 12 rounds by Yvan Mendy in 2024 when he won a unanimous decision for the vacant European Lightweight Title. He went went a dozen rounds with Ryan Walsh in 2024 when he took a unanimous decision to defend his British, Commonwealth, and WBO International Lightweight Crowns. And he went the distance with Abdullah Mason when he lost his lone pro bout. Noakes won the vacant Commonwealth Belt in 2022 by stopping Calvin McCord in the fourth round.
He then captured the vacant British and WBO International Titles by halting Lewis Sylvester in the fourth round in February, 2024. Noakes had won the vacant WBC International Silver Lightweight Title in 2021 when he stopped Shaun Cooper in the ninth round. He was also hailed as the European Boxing Union Male Champion of the Year for 2024 but vacated his European Title in April, 2025 after defending it against Gianluca Ceglia in September, 2024.
Prediction…
Berinchyk is an established veteran with just one pro defeat. However, he’s been inactive because of shoulder surgery and is now 38 years old, nine years older than Noakes. The former world champion doesn’t have much in the way of power and ring rust could be a problem in a 10-round fight. Noakes looked impressive in his title shot against Abdullah Mason and owns plenty of power. Noakes is a pressure fighter and considering all the intangibles I’m expecting him to beat Berinchyk this weekend and a stoppage is possible.
Noakes is nine years younger with more power.
