  • Steve Claggett +600
  • Adam Azim -1000

My Pick

Azim is just 24 years old and climbs through the ropes with a perfect record of 14-0 with 11 Ko’s. He’s known as a powerful puncher as his current knockout ratio stands at 78.6 per cent. He’s halted his last five opponents but went the distance in his previous two bouts. Azim turned pro in 2020 following a good amateur career which saw him reportedly win 10 national titles and being ranked the world’s top welterweight youth amateur. He currently has 80 rounds of pro experience under his belt.

As a pro, Azim captured the vacant WBC Youth Inter-Continental Super Lightweight Title in 2022 when he stopped Anthony Loffet in 66 seconds. He then won the European Crown in November, 2023 with a 10th-round TKO over Franck Petitjean after dropping him in the fifth round. He took a step up in class against Ohara Davies in 2024 and stopped him in the eighth round and took another step up against Sergey Lipinets and took care of him in nine rounds. Azim seems well prepared for a world title shot in the future due to his skill and power. He stands 5-feet-10-inches tall with a reported 70-inch reach.

The 36-year-old Claggett makes the ring walk with a 40-8-2 record with 28 Ko’s and has boxed 294 rounds since making his pro debut in 2008 after his amateur career. He measures 5-feet-8-inches tall and also has a 70-inch reach so he gives up two inches in height to Azim. As far as power is concerned, Claggett has enough of it to do some damage as 70 per cent of his victories have come by stoppage including 10 of his past 12.

Claggett has eight defeats on his record. He was stopped in the eighth round by Romeo Jakosalem in 2011; dropped an eight-round split decision to Alexandre Lepelley in 2013; lost an eight-round unanimous decision to Konstantin Ponomarev in 2015; lost a 10-round majority decision to Chris van Heerden in 2016; dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Danny O’Connor in 2018 in a shot at the WBC International Silver Super Lightweight Title; lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Yves Ulysse Jr in 2019 and dropped a 10-round split decision to Mathieu Germain in 2021. His most notable loss was a unanimous decision to Teofimo Lopez in June, 2024 in a shot at his WBO Junior Welterweight Belt.

The two draws on his record were a four-rounder with Dave Petryk back in 2009 and a 10-round affair with Mathieu Germain in 2021 for the IBF North American and International Super Lightweight Belts. As a pro, Claggett has captured the vacant WBC Youth Inter-Continental Super Lightweight Title, the vacant Canadian Welterweight Belt, the vacant NABA USA Super Lightweight Belt and the IBF North American, WBO International, NABF and IBF International Super Lightweight Titles. His biggest wins have been over Miguel Madueno, Carlos Sanchez, Alberto Machado, Tony Luis and Emanuel Lopez.

Prediction…

Claggett and Azim both possess plenty of power and Claggett has been stopped once. Azim has more more experience against upper-level opponents and is 12 years younger than his opponent. This could be an interesting contest for a few rounds as Claggett is tough and durable but Azim has the skills to come out on top here regardless if it goes the distance or not.

Azim a dozen years younger with good power.
