My Pick
Karim Berredjem is 39 years old and climbs through the ropes with a less-than-stellar record of 12-10 with 3 Ko’s. He’s boxed 130 rounds since turning pro back in 2014 after a decent amateur career. There’s no height and reach information for him so we don’t know how he measures up size-wise against Allen. We do know that his power is almost non-existent however as he’s stopped just three of his 22 opponents and has also been halted three times himself. In fact, his last stoppage victory came back in 2016, a decade ago and just 25 per cent of his wins have come by knockout.
He challenged for the French Heavyweight Title in the past against Cyril Leonet in 2017 and 2022, Raphael Tronche in 2018, Nicolas Wamba in 2021 David Spilmont in 2023. Berredjem lost all of those bouts with Tronche stopping him in the first round. He has also been halted by Christian Lewandowski in 2015 and Samuel Kadje a year later. Just 12 of his 22 opponents entered the ring with a winning record at the time.
Allen is now 33 years old and climbs into the squared circle with a mark of 24-8-2 with 19 Ko’s. He made his pro debut in 2012 following his amateur career and has boxed 156 rounds since. He’s got decent size for a heavyweight at 6-feet-3-inches and a 75-inch reach. Allen’s biggest wins have been against former heavyweight belt holder Lucas Browne of Australia when he stopped him in the third round in April, 2019 and his recent stoppage of Johnny Fisher.
As well as losing to Makhmudov and Fisher, other defeats were to David Price when he was stopped after 10 rounds in 2019; Tony Yoka by 10th-round stoppage in 2018; a 12-round split decision to Lenroy Thomas in 2017 for the vacant Commonwealth Heavyweight Crown; an eighth-round stoppage to Luis Ortiz in 2016; a 10-round unanimous decision to Dillian Whyte five months earlier in a shot at the vacant WBC International Heavyweight Title and a sixth-round stoppage to Frazer Clarke in 2023 when Allen had to pack it in on the stool after suffering a perforated eardrum.
His two draws were against Plamen Nikolov over four rounds in 2014 and a technical draw with Lenroy Thomas in 2018 for the Commonwealth Title. As we can see, Allen hasn’t had too much success when facing upper-class boxers such as Makhmudov, Clarke, Whyte and Ortiz and he hasn’t beaten anybody on the world level. Allen has a pair of pretty heavy hands though as 79.2 per cent of his wins have come by way of stoppage and so have 14 of his past 16 victories. But on the other side of the coin, his chin isn’t the greatest as he’s been halted in four of his eight defeats.
Prediction…
Allen usually comes out swinging and so far it’s been a relatively successful tactic for him due to his power. Of course, he’s also been stopped several times too but the 39-year-old Berredjem lacks any type of power. This appears to be a complete mismatch and I’m not really sure why the fight was made other than to provide a payday for Allen and to keep him active. A win isn’t going to prove anything but a loss could derail his career. I’m expecting Allen to end this contest relatively early and with these astronomical odds, picking the round seems to be the only wager that makes sense. Of course anything can happen in heavyweight boxing though so a small bet on Berredjem and a win by him would be akin to winning the lottery.
Allen should take Berredjem out relatively early.
