Serhii Bohachuk vs Radzhab Butaev Preview February 1st, 2026

Ukraine’s Serhii Bohachuk will be taking on former WBA “regular” World Welterweight Champion Radzhab Butaev of Russia this Sunday, February 1st. Both boxers will be moving up to middleweight in this 10-rounder, which takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada and can be seen live on Paramount+. Bohachuk last fought in September when he dropped a wide 10-round unanimous decision to Brandon Adams in a rematch. The two first met in 2021 with Adams stopping Bohachuk in the eighth round of a fight Bohachuk was handily winning on the scorecards to win the WBC Continental Americas Junior Middleweight Belt. Bohachuk won the vacant interim WBC Junior Middleweight Belt via a unanimous decision over Brian Mendoza in March, 2024 but then lost it via a controversial majority decision to Vergil Ortiz Jr even though he dropped Ortiz in the first and eighth rounds. Butaev’s last contest resulted in an eight-round unanimous nod over Artem Pugach in November.

  • Radzhab Butaev +153
  • Serhii Bohachuk -200

My Pick

The 30-year-old Bohachuk fights out of Los Angeles, California and makes the ring walk with a record of 26-3 with 24 of those wins coming by stoppage for a knockout ratio of 92.3 per cent in his victories. His first defeat was the eighth-round TKO to Adams in their first meeting with his second loss coming at the hands of Vergil Ortiz and he then lost to Adams in their rematch a few months ago. Therefore, Bohachuk has gone the distance just four times as a pro and they were four of his past five outings against Brian Mendoza, Ortiz, Mykal Fox and Adams.

When Adams halted him in March, 2021, Bohachuk was comfortably ahead on all three scorecards at the time and Adams was deducted a point for low blows in the third round. It’s quite obvious that Bohachuk has very good power and he’s had to fight just 135 rounds in 29 contests since making his pro debut in 2017. Before that he enjoyed a fine amateur career and competed in the World Series of Boxing for Ukraine. He was a silver medalist at the 2015 Ukrainian Championships and was a three-time national champion in the under-22 division.

Bohachuk stands 5-feet-11 inches tall with a 73-inch reach and also has wins over Ishmael Davis, Freddy Hernandez, Fernando Marin, Tyrone Brunson, Alejandro Davila, Raphael Igbokwe and Nathaniel Gallimore. He’s also a two-time WBC Continental Americas Junior Middleweight Champion. Bohachuk holds a 2-2 record in his last four fights and he has stopped just one of his past five opponents, when he halted Ishmael Davis in the sixth round in December, 2024.

Butaev is now 32 years old and he hasn’t really had a significant fight since April, 2022 when he dropped a split decision to Eimantas Stanionis and lost his WBA Regular Welterweight Belt. He captured that title by stopping Jamal James in the ninth round in October, 2021. Butaev was beaten by Alexander Besputin by 12-round unanimous decision in November, 2019 in a fight for the vacant WBA Welterweight Title. However that bout was eventually ruled a no-contest when Besputin failed his drug tests.

This means Butaev, fights out of Indio, California enters the ring with a mark of 16-1 with 12 Ko’s. He reportedly went 392-8 as an amateur after taking up boxing as a nine year old. He also went 9-1 in the World Series of Boxing. Since turning pro he’s fought just 89 rounds and also captured the vacant NABF Super Welterweight Title in 2016 with an eight-round unanimous decision over Gabor Gorbics. He stands just over 5-feet-10 inches tall with a 72-inch reach so gives up half-an-inch in height and an inch in reach to Bohachuk.

Butaev also has good power in his fists as 75 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including his last four. He hasn’t been very active though as he’s fought just five times in the last six years and took a two year break from November 2023 to November, 2025. Butaev has fought mainly in America since turning pro with a few total bouts in Eastern Europe and in his homeland as well. However, other than Stanionis, Besputin, Gorbics and James, most of his opponents have been rather unknown to most boxing fans. Still, he’s an exciting boxer with plenty of power and should face a stiff test against Boahchuk on Sunday night.

Prediction…

Both boxers have good power while Bohachuk is usually quite relentless in the ring as he just keeps pushing forwards in his fights. Butaev has never fought as a full-fledged middleweight as of yet and his relative inactivity won’t help him. Even so, this is a close call but I believe that as long as Bohachuk lets his hands go and applies pressure as he typically does, he should earn a win here.

Bohachuk’s non-stop pressure should do the trick.
