Erik Robles Ayala vs Ramon Cardenas Preview Dec. 18th, 2025

Ramon Cardenas of San Antonio, Texas returns to the ring this Thursday, December 18th to take on Erik Robles Ayala of Mexico. The 10-round super bantamweight contest from Fort Lauderdale, Florida can be seen live on the Pro Box TV app and You Tube channel. Cardenas last saw action in May when he dropped undisputed Super Bantamweight Champion Naoya Inoue in the second round in Las Vegas, Nevada, but was then decked in the seventh round and halted in the eighth. Ayala is also looking to rebound from a defeat as he dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Jesus Eduardo Arechiga Valdez in his last fight in March.

My Pick

The 25-year-old Ayala enters the ring this Thursday with a mark of 16-3 with 10 Ko’s and has 72 rounds of experience under his belt since making his pro debut in 2019. Unfortunately there’s no height and reach information for him so we don’t know how he stacks up against Cardenas size-wise. However, when it comes to power, we do know that he’s above average as 62.5 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage He’s stopped just two of his last seven opponents though and has lost two of his last three fights.

Ayala was stopped in the second round by Liam Davies in March, 2024 in a shot at the vacant IBO Super Bantamweight Belt. He was also halted in his first pro defeat as Carlos Daniel Acosta knocked him out in the second round in March, 2020. Ayala’s biggest win came in July, 2023 when he beat Lee McGregor via a 12-round unanimous decision to capture the vacant IBO Super Bantamweight Crown. He then added the vacant WBO NABO Title five months later with a 10-round unanimous nod over Cesar Vaca Espinoza.

Ramon ‘Dinamita’ Cardenas is 30 years old and makes the ring walk with an impressive mark of 26-2 with 14 Ko’s and has boxed 143 rounds since turning pro in 2015. He measures 5-feet-6-inches tall with a 67-inch reach. He was basically an unknown to many boxing fans until dropping Inoue earlier this year with a perfectly-timed left hook. As an amateur, Cardenas reached the semifinals of the 2014 USA National Championships and the 2013 USA Youth National Championships.

As far as power goes, Cardenas is just above average as 53. 9 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including four of his past five. His first defeat came back in 2017 at the hands of Danny Flores by way of a 10-round majority decision. He beat Ramsey Luna by a 10-round unanimous decision in 2018 for the vacant American Boxing Federation Inter-Continental Featherweight Crown and then added the vacant NABA USA Super Bantamweight Belt in 2021 via an eight-round split decision over Angel Antonio Contreras.

In February, 2024, Cardenas beat Israel Rodriguez Picazo for the vacant WBC Fecarbox Super Bantamweight Title by stopping him after six rounds. Two months later he stopped Jesus Ramirez Rubio in the ninth round to claim the vacant WBA Continental North America Super Bantamweight Belt. He also has wins over Bryan Acosta, Ryan Lee Allen, Eduardo Martinez, Marvin Solano, Michell Banquez and Rafael Pedroza. Sixteen of Cardenas’ 28 opponents entered the ring with a winning record.

Prediction…

Cardenas didn’t match Inoue in any area but made a name for himself with his gutsy effort in his loss earlier this year. He should have gained plenty of confidence from that fight and will be hoping to carry the momentum over for this week’s battle. Ayala is five years younger and can’t be taken lightly even though he’s been stopped twice already. Cardenas should be able to rebound from his loss to Inoue as long as he lets his hands go the same way he did against the Japanese star.

Cardenas is slightly better than Ayala in most departments.
