Brian Norman Jr. vs Devin Haney Preview Nov. 22nd, 2025

Unbeaten WBO Welterweight Champion Brian Norman Jr of Decatur, Georgia defends his belt for the third time when he takes on unbeaten former world champion Devin Haney of San Francisco, California. The 12-round bout takes place in Saudi Arabia this Saturday, Nov. 22nd and can be seen live on DAZN pay-per-view in most nations. Haney is a former IBF, WBA Super World, WBO, WBC ‘Franchise,’ and Ring Magazine World Lightweight Beltholder who also won the WBC Junior Welterweight Title in December, 2023 when he dominated Regis Prograis. He then fought Ryan Garcia in April, 2024 and was dropped three times in a majority decision loss but the fight was later ruled a no-contest when Garcia was fined and suspended for failing a drug test. Haney then moved up to welterweight (catchweight 144 lbs) and beat former world champion Jose Ramirez via a 12-round unanimous decision this May in a truly dreadful fight. Norman last fought in June when he stopped Jin Sisaki in the fifth round. Norman won the interim title in May, 2024 when he stopped Giovani Santillan in the 10th round. He then took the full title when Terence Crawford gave up the belt and Norman stopped Derrick Cuevas in the third round this March.

My Pick
The 24-year-old Norman Jr enters the ring with a perfect record of 28-0 with 21 Ko’s and has 100 rounds of pro experience under his belt since making his debut in 2018. He’s currently regarded as the youngest male world champion at the moment. As an amateur, Norman won the 2016 USA Junior Olympics Final. He stands 5-feet-8 inches tall with a 72-inch reach and carries very good power in his fists as his current knockout ratio tips the scales at 78.6 per cent but has gone the distance in three of his last six official fights.
His bout with Janelson Bocachica in March of 2024 was called a no-contest in the third round as both boxers suffered severe cuts. Norman was defending his WBO International Welterweight Belt which he had won in November, 2023 via a 10-round unanimous decision over Quinton Randall. Norman made his pro debut in Houston, Texas and then fought a dozen times in Mexico and none of his first 12 opponents had a winning record and the same can be said for 16 of his 28 overall opponents.
But we must remember he’s just 24 years old. This will be his second fight outside of America after 13 straight bouts in the United States. He beat Sisaki earlier this year in Tokyo, Japan. Norman’s biggest wins have been against Sisaki, Cuevas, Santillan, Carlos Ramirez, Flavio Rodriguez, Juan Rodriguez Jr, Benjamin Whitaker, Rodrigo Coria, Jesus Campos and Quinton Randall so it’s safe to say that Norman Jr stepped up in class against Santillan and is now stepping up again against Haney.
The veteran Haney may be older than Norman, but he’s only 27 years old himself and he has evolved from being a can’t-miss prospect to a multi-weight world champion following his excellent 138-bout amateur career after getting into the sport as a seven-year-old. He won a silver medal at the USA Junior National Championships in 2013 and reached the quarterfinals of the World Juniors the same year. He then won a gold medal at the 2014 US Junior National Championships and the 2015 USA Youth National Championships.
He was the youngest boxer ever to win the Youth World Championships and captured a total of seven national titles along the way. Haney, who was born in San Francisco and fights out of Las Vegas, then turned pro in December of 2015 as a 16-year-old and has a perfect official record of 32-0 as a pro with 15 Ko’s and has 234 rounds of experience under his belt. He won the WBC Interim World Lightweight Title in 2019 by stopping Zaur Abdullaev and the full title in his next fight with a unanimous decision over Alfredo Santiago.
Haney defended the belt by unanimous decision against Yuriorkis Gamboa, Jorge Linares and Joseph Diaz before beating George Kambosos twice in a row by unanimous decision in Australia to win the rest of the lightweight belts. He fought once more as a lightweight against Vasyl Lomachenko and beat him by a controversial unanimous decision before heading north in weight to take on Regis Prograis, Ryan Garcia and Jose Ramirez. Haney has also won captured several regional and minor titles along the way including the WBC Youth World, USBA, IBF North American, WBC International, and WBO Inter-Continental Lightweight Belts. He stands 5-feet-8-inches tall with a 71-inch so gives up an inch in reach to Norman.
Haney possesses tremendous skills and speed with average power with a current knockout ratio of 46.9 per cent and has gone the distance in his past 10 fights (including the Garcia contest) with his last stoppage coming in September, 2019 when he halted Abdullaev after four rounds. His first four pro bouts took place in Mexico since he was too young to box professionally in America at the time. He’s beaten everybody in front of him so far with his toughest opponents being Ramirez, Prograis, Garcia, Lomachenko, Kambosos, Diaz Jr., Linares, Gamboa, Santiago, Antonio Moran, Mason Menard, Juan Carlos Burgos and Xolisani Ndongeni.
Prediction…
Haney definitely has the edge here when it comes to boxing skills but Norman takes the cake when it comes to power. Haney had a big problem with Ryan Garcia’s left hook and Norman’s left hook is arguably better than Garcia’s. This fight is ultimately going to be decided by Haney’s ability to avoid or absorb Norman’s hook and other power punches while landing enough shots of his own to win rounds. The most logical outcomes of this fight appear to be Norman by stoppage or Haney by decision. Haney is also moving up in weight as this will be his first contest at 147 lbs. No outcome will be a shock but I’ll give the slight edge to Norman since he’s used to the weight division and has more power.
Norman Jr. has the edge in power.
