Jesse Rodriguez vs Fernando Martinez Preview Nov. 22nd, 2025

Two unbeaten Super Flyweight Champions will be unifying their belts this Saturday, November 22nd as WBC/WBO Boss Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez of San Antonio, Texas takes on WBA Champion Fernando Daniel Martinez of Argentina. The 12-round fight from Saudi Arabia can be seen live on most nations on DAZN. Martinez last fought in May when he beat former world champion Kazuto Ioka by unanimous decision in an instant rematch. The two first met in July, 2024 with Martinez taking a controversial unanimous decision to defend his IBF Belt and take Ioka’s WBA Belt at the same time. However, the IBF stripped Martinez for taking the rematch so he currently owns the WBA Title only. Rodriguez last boxed in July when he stopped Phumelela Cafu in the 10th round to add the WBO Title to his WBC Belt. Rodriguez is a two-time super flyweight champion and a former flyweight beltholder who won the WBC Super Flyweight version in June, 2024 when he stopped Juan Francisco Estrada in the seventh round.

My Pick
The southpaw Rodriguez is currently one of the youngest pro world boxing champions as he’s just 25 years old. He enters the fight with a perfect mark of 22-0 with 15 Ko’s and possesses pretty good power in his arsenal with a current knockout ratio of 68.2 per cent and has stopped five of his past eight opponents. Rodriguez stands 5-feet-4-inches tall with a 67-inch reach and is the brother of former WBA Super Flyweight Champion Joshua Franco. He made his pro debut in 2017 and has boxed 123 rounds since.
Rodriguez enjoyed a fine amateur career which saw him win the 2015 U.S. National Junior Under-17 Championship at 101 lbs, capture a silver medal at the 2015 World Junior Under-17 Championships at 101 lbs and win the 2016 U.S. National Junior Under-17 Championships at 106 lbs. As a pro, he beat Carlos Cuadras by unanimous decision to win the vacant WBC Super Flyweight Belt in February, 2022. He defended the title twice as he beat Israel Gonzalez by unanimous decision and stopped fellow southpaw and former world champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in the eighth round in June, 2022.
Rodriguez went on to win the vacant WBO Flyweight Title in April, 2023 when he beat Cristian Hernandez by unanimous decision and defended that belt for the first time and won the IBF version with his ninth-round stoppage of Sunny Edwards. Rodriguez also has wins over Armando Vazquez, Rauf Aghayev, Cesar Torrijos, Marco Sustaita, Janiel Rivera and Saul Juarez. He possesses excellent speed, skills, a solid chin and enough power to stop most opponents.
Martinez is an energetic 34-year-old with a perfect record of 18-0 with 9 Ko’s. He made his pro debut in 2017 and has boxed 127 rounds since. He has average power in his fists with a current knockout ratio of 50 per cent and has gone the distance in five of his past seven fights. Most of his opponents were basically relative unknowns until he met Jerwin Ancajas in February, 2022 when he pulled off a 12-round unanimous decision upset in his first fight in America to win the IBF Super Flyweight Belt. He then repeated the feat in their rematch eight months later.
Martinez had a good amateur career as he beat Andrew Moloney and fought in the World Series of Boxing. Since turning pro, He has also captured the vacant Argentina FAB Super Flyweight Title and the WBC Silver Super Flyweight Title. He’s listed as just 5-feet-2-inches tall with a 64-inch reach but packs a lot of energy into his small frame. Still, he’ll be giving up two inches in height to Rodriguez as well as three inches in reach. Martinez has also beaten the likes of Angel Aquino, Abel Silva, Athenkosi Dumezweni, Carlos Ruiz and Nicolas Botelli.
Prediction…
Rodriguez and Martinez are both world-class champions who aren’t afraid to let their hands go. Rodriguez is nine years younger however and has the edge in height and reach. Martinez also comes second best in just about every other category between the two champions but has has an awkward style which has proven to be very effective for him so far. Rodriguez possesses the overall better skills and power and as long as he can figure Martinez out I’m expecting him to successfully unify the titles but it could go the distance.
Rodriguez is nine years younger with the edge in skill and power.
