Miguel Berchelt vs Edixon Perez Preview October 11th, 2025

Former WBC Super Featherweight Champion Miguel Berchelt of Mexico returns to the ring to take on Edixon Perez of Venezuela this Saturday, October 11th. This will be a 10-round lightweight tilt from Mexico. Berchelt was stopped in the 10th round by WBO Featherweight Champion Oscar Valdez in February, 2021 to lose his title and was then halted in the sixth-round by Jeremia Nakathila in his next outing in March, 2022. Since then he’s reeled off three straight wins against unheralded opposition. His last outing came November when he beat Mauro Alex Hasan Perouene via a 10-round unanimous decision with the previous two ending in stoppages. Perez last fought in June when he stopped Ricardo Acuna in the third round to snap a two-fight losing skid.

My Pick

Berchelt is 33 years old and now owns a record of 41-3 with 36 Ko’s. He made his pro debut in 2010 and has 184 rounds under his belt since. He stands 5-feet-7-inches tall with a reach of 71.5 inches and has quite a bit of power as 87.8 per cent of his wins have come by way of stoppage including eight of his last nine. Berchelt’s first loss was a first-round TKO at the hands of Luis Florez in 2014 so he’s been stopped in all three of his defeats after displaying a pretty reliable chin earlier in his career. He enjoyed a fine amateur career and was a three-time national champion.

Berchelt’s best wins have been against Francisco Vargas (twice), Miguel Roman, Jonathan Barros, Takashi Miura, George Jupp, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Escalante, Carlos Reyes and Cristobal Cruz. He’s a fan-friendly boxer with an exciting style who gave fans a few classics against very tough customers in Valdez, Vargas and Miura. He successfully defend his title eight times after winning the interim belt by stopping George Jupp in the sixth round in 2018. Berchelt won the WBC FECARBOX Lightweight Title in July, 2024 when he stopped Jeremy Triana in the third round.

Perez is a 33-year-old who makes the ring walk with a mark of 30-13-1 with 24 Ko’s. He turned pro in 2013 and has boxed a total of 218 rounds since. He’s been stopped in four of his 13 losses with his most notable KO coming at the hands of David Picasso in 2021. He also lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Leonardo Baez in 2019 in a shot at the NABA Super Bantamweight Title while Antonio Paulo Soares beat him by 10-round unanimous decision in 2019 in a shot at the WBO Latino Featherweight Belt.

The lone draw on Perez’s record was a 10-round affair with Jose Velazquez in 2023 in an attempt at the WBO Latino Super Bantamweight Crown. Overall, Perez is 3-6-1 in his last 10 fights. He measures 5-feet-4-inches tall with a 69-inch reach so gives up three inches in height and 2.5-inches in reach to Berchelt. As far as power is concerned, Perez shouldn’t be taken lightly as 80 per cent of his victories have come by stoppage including his last 10, dating back to 2020.

Prediction…

This appear to be a keep-busy fight for Berchelt as he’s boxing a relative unknown with a mediocre record. In addition, Perez has fought most of his career in the lighter divisions and this will be just his third outing in the 135 lb lightweight division. Berchelt had plenty of power and speed and was ranked as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world before losing to Valdez and it seems he still has the power. He’s been involved in several all-action slugfests as he prefers to let his fists go than get into a tactical fight. Perez also has good power but is naturally smaller and I’m expecting him to fall short against Berchelt this weekend and he could be stopped along the way.

Berchelt still has plenty of power.
