My Pick

The 26-year-old Lopez owns a perfect record of 14-0 with 11 Ko’s and has boxed just 55 rounds since making his pro debut in 2021. As an amateur he competed at the 2018 National Golden Gloves Tournament and made it all the way to the final where he was edged by Darius Fulghum via a split decision. He also fought at the 2017 USA Eastern Regional Youth Open Final and reached the semifinals of the 2016 USA Youth National Championships Semi-Final where he was beaten on points by current heavyweight prospect Jared Anderson.

In addition, Lopez won the 2015 USA Junior Olympics Final. He’s definitely big enough for the light heavyweight division as he stands 6-feet-2-inches with an 80-inch reach. He certainly possesses solid power in his arsenal as his current knockout ratio clocks in at 78.6 per cent as he’s gone the distance just three times in his 14 pro contests.

Just two of Lopez’s opponents have entered the ring with a losing record but he is yet to face a legitimate contender as his biggest wins have been against the likes of Steven Sumpter, Marcos Escudero, Christopher Brooker, Anthony Stewart, Gilbert Castillo Rivera and Alex Theran. Lopez took a slight step up in class against the veteran Castillo in January and stopped him in the sixth round.

‘Hot Sauce’ Henderson is now 35 years old and makes the ring walk with a mark of 19-2-1 with 13 Ko’s and has 96 rounds of pro experience under his belt since making his debut back in 2016. He measures 6-feet-tall with a 73-inch reach so gives up two inches in height and seven inches in reach to Lopez. As an amateur he competed in the World Series of Boxing and made it to the 2015 USA National Championships quarterfinals. He was also a four-time Arkansas State Champion.

As far as power goes, Henderson is above average as 68.4 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage but he’s stopped just two of his past five opponents. He won the vacant UBF Inter-Continental Super Middleweight Title in 2018 when he stopped Brandon Robinson in seven rounds. His first defeat came at the hands of Isiah Steen by 10-round unanimous decision in 2021 and two fights later he was stopped in the fourth round by David Morrell in a shot at his WBA Super Middleweight Title.

Henderson’s draw was an eight-round affair with Genc Pllana in 2019. He’s a durable boxer with a pretty good chin even though Morrell stopped him. On a side note, Henderson has also worked as a boxing judge and timekeeper and has recently been competing in the Team Combat League (TCL). He began boxing at the age of 15. He later attended the University of Arkansas and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music education and played percussion in the school’s marching band.

Prediction…

Henderson is 35 years old and gives up a lot of size to Lopez. He’s arguably taking a step up in class as well as just 10 of Henderson’s 22 opponents entered the ring with a winning record. He’s a good boxer though and Lopez needs to make sure he isn’t careless as he was dropped in his win against Steven Sumpter. He needs test Henderson early and often and while Henderson will give it a good shot i believe Lopez will emerge with another win to remain undefeated.

This will be a good test, but Lopez should pass it.
