  • Ivan Dychko -140

My Pick

The 31-year-old Franklin climbs through the ropes with a mark of 23-2 with 15 Ko’s and has boxed 139 rounds since making his pro debut in 2015. He enjoyed a fine amateur career which saw him win the 2014 USA National Golden Gloves Final and lose in the final the previous year. He stands 6-feet-3-inches tall with a 77-inch and possesses pretty good power in his fists with 65.2 per cent of his wins coming by stoppage but has stopped just two one of his last nine opponents.

Franklin took a step up in class in November, 2022 in his tilt against Dillian Whyte and passed the test as many fans felt he did enough to earn at least a draw but was handed a 12-round majority decision defeat. Of course, a win or draw is almost an impossibility in the UK for a foreign boxer though unless he dominates the proceedings. He then returned to England five months later for his next contest against Anthony Joshua and dropped 12-round unanimous decision.

Franklin bounced back from those consecutive defeats with a unanimous decision over Issac Munoz Gutierrez in July, 2023 and the stoppage of Vargas in his last outing his last outing 16 months ago. He has also beaten the likes of Adam Collins, Daniel Allotey, Akhror Muralimov, Tyrell Wright, Cory Phelps, Ed Fountain and Craig Lewis as well as a few recognizable names in Pavel Sour, Jerry Forrest and Rydell Booker. However, he went the distance with the latter three.

Dychko, who fights out of Kissimmee, Florida, is 35 years old and owns a perfect record of 15-0 with 14 Ko’s. He made his pro debut in 2017 and has fought just 33 rounds since due to his tremendous power as his current knockout ratio clocks in at 93.3 per cent. He had a successful amateur career by winning bronze medals at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games as a super heavyweight. He also won silver medals at the 2015 and 2013 World Amateur Championships and a bronze at the event in 2011.

Dychko also took home various medals at the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games; the 2013 and 2015 Asian Championships and the 2008 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. He faced some elite boxers as an amateur such as Joe Joyce, Efe Ajagba, Tony Yoka, Anthony Joshua, Filip Hrgovic and Zhilei Zhang but his biggest wins as a pro have come against Michael Marrone, Ray Austin, Denis Bakhtov, Alexsandr Ustinov and Maurice Harris.

However, he has beaten all 15 pro opponents he’s faced and has stopped all but one of them. The only man to go the distance with him was Kevin Nicolas Espindola who went 10 rounds in June, 2022. Arguably, Dychko is taking a step up min class against Franklin this weekend. He’s also one of the tallest heavyweights around as he measures 6-feet-9-inches tall with an 81-inch reach which gives him a six-inch height advantage over Franklin as well as four inches in reach.

Prediction…

Franklin has proven that he doesn’t look out of place with the big boys of the division as he handled himself well against Dillian Whyte and Anthony Joshua. He’s pretty durable with a solid chin as he’s never been stopped but he’s giving up a lot of size and power to Dychko. It’s likely going to be difficult for Franklin to work his way inside against Dychko due to the size difference and his chin is sure to be tested when he tries. Franklin has a shot at winning this fight if he can handle Dychko’s power but I don’t think he can keep him at bay for all 10 rounds. I give Dychko the edge due to his size and power.

Dychko has stopped 14 of his 15 pro opponents.
