My Pick

The 30-year-old Mbilli, who fights out of Quebec, Canada, enters the ring with a perfect record of 29-0 with 24 Ko’s and has boxed 133 rounds since making his pro debut in 2017. He enjoyed a fine amateur career as he fought for France at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro where he was beaten in his third contest. He stands just over 5-feet-8-inches tall with a 72-inch reach and has quite a bit of power loaded in his fists with a current knockout ratio of 82.8 per cent but has gone the distance in three of his past seven fights.

Mbilli has been the distance just five times as a pro though and was taken the 10-round distance recently by Carlos Gongora, Vaughn Alexander and Derevyanchenko. As a pro he’s also captured the vacant WBC World Youth, WBC Youth Continental, and WBC Francophone Titles. Mbilli originally won the vacant WBC Continental Americas Super Middleweight Belt in 2021 when he stopped Ronny Landaeta in the third round. He has defended it against Ronald Ellis, Nadjib Mohammedi, DeAndre Ware, Vaughn Alexander, Carlos Gongora, Demond Nicholson, Rohan Murdock, Mark Heffron and Derevyanchenko before beating Sulecki for the interim WBC Title.

The 29-year-old Martinez hails from Guatemala City and he’s entering the contest with a perfect mark of 19-0 with 16 Ko’s to his name. He’s fought just 74 rounds since making his pro debut in 2019. He enjoyed a fine amateur career as he won a silver medal as a light-welterweight at the Youth World Championships in 2012 captured a gold as a middleweight at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2018. Martinez measures 5-feet-11-inches tall with a 72-inch reach so is 2.5-inches taller than Mbilli.

When it comes to power, Martinez has no problem matching Mbilli as his current knockout ratio clocks in at 84.2 per cent. He’s gone the distance just three times as Carlos Congora took him 10 rounds in 2024 while Rodolfo Gomez Jr did the same in 2022 and Raiko Santana also went 10 rounds with him in 2021. In his pro debut, Martinez stopped former world champion Ricardo Mayorga in the second round and won the vacant WBC Latino Super Middleweight Title in 2020 by halting Uriel Gonzalez in the first round.

Prediction…

When it comes to action, this has the potential to be the fight of the night as both boxers are unbeaten with exceptional power and aren’t shy about letting their hands go. It should be an intriguing contest with both guys having their chins tested. This is a close call and no outcome would be a surprise here but I think Mbilli may have a slight edge here due to his speed.

Mbilli in a tossup as he has slightly better skills.
