Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois Preview July 19th, 2025

Oleksandr Usyk of Ukraine will be putting his WBO, IBO, WBA (Super) and WBC Heavyweight Titles on the line against against IBF Champion Daniel Dubois of England this Saturday, July 19th in an attempt to become the undisputed heavyweight champ for the second time. The rematch from Wembley Stadium in London, England can be seen live in most nations on DAZN pay-per-view. The two boxers first met in August, 2023 with the unbeaten Usyk stopping Dubois in the ninth round after Dubois dropped the champion with a controversial body shot which was ruled to be below the belt earlier in the fight. Usyk last fought in December when he beat Tyson Fury by unanimous decision in a rematch after downing Fury by split decision seven months earlier to become the undisputed champion. The IBF took his belt away though and Dubois won the IBF interim version by stopping Filip Hrgovic in eight rounds in June, 2026 and the full version by halting Anthony Joshua in the fifth round last September.

  • Oleksandr Usyk -375

My Pick

The 38-year-old Usyk is a 6-foot-3-inch southpaw with a reach of 78 inches who turned pro back in 2013 and has boxed 201 rounds since. He unified the Cruiserweight Titles in July, 2018 in the final of the World Boxing Super Series when he beat Murat Gassiev by unanimous decision. He became the first man ever to hold the WBO, IBF, WBA and WBC Cruiserweight Belts at the same time. He was the WBO and WBC champ when he beat Gassiev, who was then the IBF and WBA champ. Usyk, who owns a perfect record of 23-0 with 14 Ko’s, had also won the WBO Title by beating Krzysztof Glowacki by unanimous decision in September, 2016.

He defended it against Thabiso Mchunu with a ninth-round stoppage three months later and against Michael Hunter in April, 2017. He then stopped Marco Huck in 10 rounds before taking the WBC title from Mairis Briedis by majority decision in January, 2018 and defended all of the cruiserweight belts against Tony Bellew in his last fight in the weight division. Since then he’s laid claim to all of the heavyweight belts with his wins over Anthony Joshua, which came by unanimous decision in 2021 and split decision a year later. He also beat Dereck Chisora at heavyweight by unanimous decision for the WBO Inter-Continental Heavyweight crown and of course beat Fury twice and became undisputed at heavyweight after the first victory.

Usyk isn’t a huge puncher as his current knockout ratio stands at 60.9 per cent and he’s been taken the distance in nine of his last 14 outings. Before halting Dubois in 2023, his last stoppage came in 2019 when he halted Chazz Witherspoon in the seventh round in Usyk’s heavyweight debut. Those who went the distance with him have been Fury (twice), Joshua (twice), Chisora, Gassiev, Hunter, Glowacki and Briedis. Usyk had an excellent amateur career as he competed at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and then won the gold medal in the heavyweight division at the 2012 Games in London. He also won bronze and gold at World Amateur Championship tournaments in 2009 and 2011 respectively.

Dubois is just 27 years old and he stopped Ebenezer Tetteh in the second round in September, 2019 for the vacant Commonwealth and WBO International Heavyweight Titles after stopping Nathan Gorman in the fifth round in July, 2019 for the vacant British Heavyweight Title. However, he lost all of those belts to Joe Joyce in November, 2020 when he took a knee in the 10th round and decided not to carry on due to taking Joyce’s jabs all night long and suffering eye damage.

He returned seven months later to stop Bogdan Dinu in the second round before halting Joe Cusumano in one round and then beating Trevor Bryan for the WBA Regular Title by stopping him in the fourth round in June, 2022. He then suffered three knockdowns in the first round at the hands of Kevin Lerena but managed to stop him in the third round. That earned Dubois a shot at Usyk and his heavyweight titles in August, 2023 when he was stopped in the ninth round. He rebounded with impressive wins by stopping Jarrell Miller in the 10th and final round, Filip Hrgovic in eight rounds and Joshua in five.

The comparisons with fellow British heavyweights such as Tyson Fury, Joyce and Joshua are somewhat understandable as Dubois stands 6-feet-5-inches tall with a 78-inch and has plenty of power. He makes the ring walk with a mark of 22-2 and has stopped 21 of his 23 opponents for a highly-impressive current knockout ratio of 95.4 per cent in his victories. Dubois also enjoyed a fine amateur career, reportedly losing just six of 75 bouts and winning gold medals at various tournaments. He didn’t fight in the Olympics though as he decided to turn pro instead in 2017.

Dubois was brought along rather cautiously to start his pro career but has been pretty active with 24 fights under his belt but has just 95 rounds of pro experience due to his long list of knockouts. His most recognizable opponents have included Joshua, Hrgovic, Miller, Usyk, Lerena, Bryan, Joyce, Dignu, Nathan Gorman, Kevin Johnson and Razvan Cojanu so he’s fought his share of tough opponents over the past few years. The only three men who haven’t been stopped by Dubois have been Usyk, Joyce and Johnson.

Dubois usually tips the scales between 230 and 250 lbs and his career has been based on power. He can cause damage with either hand but isn’t the most mobile heavyweight in the ring. He has mediocre to decent hand speed and his chin looked a little shaky when he was dropped three times in the first stanza by Lerena and halted by Usyk. However, it appeared to be rock solid against Hrgovic, Miller and Joshua in his last three contests.

Prediction…

Dubois has the edge in size and power and is 11 years younger than Usyk, but Usyk is the owner of the better boxing skills and also has enough power to cause damage. Other than the controversial low-blow by Dubois in their first fight, Usyk appeared to be in control of the match and didn’t have much of a problem with a dejected Dubois. However since that fight Dubois has improved tremendously and his confidence should be sky high. His power and chin have both been top-notch lately but of course he can still be outboxed. Usyk needs to get close enough to utilize his skills, land telling blows and then get out of range. He needs to be aware of Dubois’ power because one shot could end the fight, but if Usyk is at his best again and has the right tactics in place he should be able to adapt to whatever Dubois brings to the table. As long as his chin holds up, I’m expecting another interesting fight between the pair and believe Usyk will once again leave the ring as the undisputed heavyweight champion but Dubois will give him a much tougher fight this time around.
