The quarterfinals in the Regions Morgan Keegan ATP500 tournament are here. So far everything has gone basically as predicted except for defending champion Andy Roddick being ousted in the first round by Xavier Malisse, who then went on to lose in the second round to Benjamin Becker. Top seed John Isner is still in the running and 3rd seed and defending runner up Milos Raonic is also in the semi-finals. As you can see Raonic and Isner are far and away the two favourites to win this tournament and for good reason.
Milos Raonic +120
Raonic has won 13 of his first 14 matches this season with his only loss coming against a spirited Lleyton Hewitt in the third round of the Australian Open. That being said Raonic hasn’t had to play too stiff of competition to this point. His only win against a player ranked higher than him came against Tipsarevic in the finals of the Aircel Chennai Open in the first tournament of the season. Raonic has improved his serve this year though and it is near impossible to win a point on his serve, let alone break him. With the Roddick loss Raonic’s side of the draw has opened wide up with Olivier Rochus, ranked 51, being the highest ranked opponent on his side of the draw. It is because he has a clear path to the finals that he is now the favorite to win the tournament over Isner.
John Isner +150
Isner has also had a strong season which had him defeating Federer in the Davis Cup world group first round match. Other than that though he hasn`t had that great of a year only winning 6 of his first 8 matches. Jurgen Melzer will be a test for him in the third round and Stepanek and Querrey will also not be walk overs in semi`s. That being said Isner should win these matches to set up a finals with Raonic.
Prediction
I would be extremely surprised if Raonic did not make it to the finals in his side of the draw. Isner on the other hand should make the finals, but I wouldn`t be shocked if he somehow got ousted. If it is a Raonic vs Isner finals then I would expect Isner to be a ever so slight favourite, but if it`s anyone else from that side of the draw Raonic should be a decent size favourite. For this reason I like Raonic at +120. He is playing so well now that the players he faces prior to finals will not be able to match his serving power. The smart money is on Raonic in this one at +120, but you could always take both Raonic and Isner and just bank on another player not pulling off the big upsets.
