China Open Tennis Betting Odds and Predictions – ATP500 Event

By Tennis

The Asian leg of the tennis season continues this week with the China Open, and ATP World Tour 500 event.  Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is the top seeded player at this tournament that is offering a purse of $2.1 Million.  The ranking points up for grabs are crucial for Tsonga to maintain his top 8th position heading into the final few tournaments of the season.  Gael Monfils was slotted in as the 2nd seed, but he has since pulled out with a right knee injury leaving Thomas Berdych and Gilles Simon as the toughest competition in the tourney.  The problem is that each of these 3 players are on the top half of the draw, which leaves the bottom half open for Nicolas Almagro, especially after Roddick was upset today.  Almagro is 9th in the current race to the World Tour Finals in London, but the vast majority of his points have come from ATP250 and ATP500 events making his 9th place ranking much higher than most would consider his class.

China Open Betting Odds

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga +300
Tomas Berdych +600
Marin Cilic +800
John Isner +1000
Kevin Anderson +1200
Gilles Simon +1400

There are the top 6 contenders for the China Open tennis championship according to bookmaker 5Dimes.com.  These odds were taken after about 6 first round matches have been completed.  With Monfils pulling out and Roddick losing early the bottom half of the draw is completely up for grabs, which is why Cilic, Isner and Anderson are all being given legitimate chances to win the tournament because one of them will likely make the finals.

China Open Betting Prediction

I like Tsonga to win this tournament.  If he plays how he is capable there is nobody in this draw with the class to defeat him.  Berdych and Isner would be his biggest threats and with the bottom half wide open a bet on Isner to win the China Open at +1000 odds wouldn’t be horrible at all.
