Andy Roddick vs Rafael Nadal US Open Quarterfinals Betting

By Tennis

Andy Roddick and Rafael Nadal won’t get too much rest before their US Open quarterfinals match.  With rain delaying play on both Tuesday and Wednesday each players 4th round match was pushed back to today (Thursday), but luckily each player was able to qualify for the quarterfinals with relative ease.  Nadal had a tough first set before dominating against Gilles Muller today, winning 7-6, 6-1, 6-2.  Roddick was an underdog in his match, but he was able to draw on the home fans in order to pull out a 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory over 5th seeded David Ferrer.  Nadal and Roddick are scheduled to play the second match of the day tomorrow on Arthur Ashe stadium.

Prediction

I’m surprised the oddsmakers are giving Roddick that much credit.  It’s true that Rafa hasn’t been in top form for the past few months, but he has found ways to win in this tournament and has yet to drop a set.  It’s true Rafa hasn’t really been tested yet, having yet to even face a seeded opponent, but his form isn’t horrible and even when he is playing below his normal level he is still better than Roddick.  Andy was able to find his groove in this tournament after not having a great season and has turned into one of the two remaining American hopes in the Men’s Draw, along with Isner.  Roddick served very well today and he will need to continue this in order to have a shot against Nadal.  That being said this is a Grand Slam and Rafa will find a way to win.  I will be betting on Rafael Nadal @ -400 and expect to win that bet even though I don’t expect Nadal to win this tournament.
