NFL 2016 Week 6 Seahawks Vs Falcons Betting Pick

By NFL

The Falcons will take on the Seahawks at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Washington. The Falcons are the most surprising team in the NFL this season. The Falcons highflying offense will try to continue their aerial assault in week six against another stout defense. The game will kick off at 4:25 PM. ET.

The Seahawks’ defense will have the advantage of playing the Falcons following their bye week. However, as Denver found out last week against the Falcons, the Seahawks still need to score more points than their opponent to win. Denver held the Falcons to only 23 points. However, it still wasn’t enough to overcome the surging Falcons. Seattle’s offense will have a hard time keeping pace with Atlanta if the Seahawks defense fails to generate pressure on Matt Ryan.

Matt Ryan 2014The Falcons are averaging 457 yards per game according to NFL Stats. Atlanta averages 35 points per game, which is seven points more than any other team in the NFL. On the flip side of that, Atlanta’s defense surrenders an average of 389 yards per game according to NFL Stats. That’s the seventh worst in the NFL.

In contrast to Atlanta’s defense, Seattle surrenders the fewest yards per game of any team according to NFL Stats. Seattle’s offense is middle of the road compared to Atlanta. If this game turns into a shootout, then it certainly favors the Falcons.

The Seahawks passing attack is improving week to week, but they still remain one of the worst scoring offenses in the league. Seattle’s ranks 21st in terms of point per game according to NFL Stats, while the Falcons are first. The biggest issue for the Seahawks is their lack of production from the running back position. Seattle has only scored three rushing touchdowns on the year to go along with six passing touchdowns.  Atlanta has exactly doubled that in both categories.

Seattle’s offense has relied on their defense to keep contests close. Russell Wilson is playing at his normal level, despite playing with an injury. Seattle is 3-1 and atop the NFC West, but their offense isn’t running at full throttle yet. The Seahawks passing attack will eventually round into form behind Russell Wilson, Doug Baldwin, and Jimmy Graham. However, it’s the loss of Marshawn Lynch in the Seahawks rushing attack that’s more than likely the cause for the Seahawks low scoring production.

Lynch was the heart of the Seahawks rushing attack and a big part of the team’s swagger. He was the engine that drove that offense. Through the first two weeks, the Seahawks were trying to adjust offensively to life without Lynch. The Seahawks, as a team, are averaging 3.3 yards per carry and 93 yards per game according to NFL Stats. The Seahawks also rank near the bottom of the league in terms of rushing touchdowns per game. They have only two, according to NFL Stats. If Seattle is to maintain their position on top of the NFC West, then they’ll need to rediscover their rushing attack.

The Falcons defense has struggled a lot this year to slow their opponents. Last week against the Broncos, the Falcons defense put the clamps on Denver’s offense. The Falcons had six sacks and ten quarterback hits against Denver. Those sacks resulted in a loss of 40 yards on the day. If the Falcons have any hope of pulling off the upset, then they’ll need to get pressure on Wilson without letting him escape the pocket.

My Pick

The Falcons have a lot of momentum coming into this week six showdown. Atlanta is a sizable underdog and that seems a little treacherous. While Seattle is playing at home, they’ve yet to play any real competition this year. Atlanta’s offense presents the first real challenge for Seattle this season. Seattle’s previous four opponents are a combined 6-14 (Seattle played three 1-4 teams and lost to the 3-2 Los Angeles Rams). While the Seahawks are a safe bet at home to win outright, the Falcons will keep this game close enough to cover the spread.
