Kick-off for this big Monday Night Football game is only a few hours away. The line has been moving quite a bit during the week. I have seen anything from the Giants as 1 point to 3 point favorites. On the road against a divisional rival that has been playing good football and are riding a two game winning streak and a hot quarterback the line is somewhat surprising. Yes the Giants did beat the Redskins in their last meeting this season, but that was in New York and it wasn’t like they dominated their rivals. Yes the Giants destroyed Packers team last week that is widely considered one of the best in the NFL, but once again this was at home. Are the oddsmakers giving the Giants too much credit here when they are just 3-2 on the road this season and had two pretty bad losses in weeks 9 and 10 heading into their bye? Let’s look at the odds and then discuss this:

Prediction
The Redskins have not had the easiest of schedules this season, but they have managed to put themselves in a position to battle for a playoff spot down the stretch. It doesn’t usually happen in the NFC East where winning the division might be easier than winning a wildcard, but this season the division has not performed too well and this may just be the only legitimate chance for the Red Skins to make the playoffs. Which makes this game even more important for both teams. The ‘Skins would only be 1 game back of the Giants with a win at home tonight. After that the Redskins have a tough Baltimore team next week, but that is followed by three extremely winnable games.
The Giants on the other hand have a much more difficult schedule with 3 strong teams before finishing the season off against the Eagles. The Giants don’t want their season to come down to the final game, even though it is against a reasonably weak opponent. Now that we’ve established this game is critical, let’s look further.
The Redskins wins haven’t been over top opponents this season. In fact they haven’t defeated a team that is currently above .500 (3 that are .500 thought) so a win over the Giants tonight would be a first in that respect. The Giants on the other hand have only lost to one below .500 team this season and that was a weird game against the Eagles, when they still had Vick and McCoy and were winning games. The Giants have simply found ways to win, even though a lot of the time it wasn’t a dominating performance.
In conclusion I think this game could really go either way. If I had to choose I’d do a slight lean towards the Redskins +3 because I think they have a shot and will at least keep the game close. 5Dimes does have a strong +2.5 line though that is paying out even money so that’s my play tonight.
