Oakland A’s vs. Minnesota Twins July 6 Free Pick

By MLB

Well we’re down to our last half unit in the bank. Not as if we haven’t dipped into the red at any point over the last two seasons, but we’re in July after a hot start to the season. The goal today is to get some of that wiggle room back and I plan to do so with three plays that we’ll make for half a unit each. The first of three unders goes off in Minnesota where a couple familiar names who are having sub-par seasons will do battle.

We haven’t really been able to figure Sonny Gray out this season. He’s been up and down, up and down. And we’ve gotten behind him twice and whiffed both times. You might remember that Gray pitched really well when we sblbacked him in Cincinnati but the A’s offense let us down in a 2-1 loss. If something similar can happen today, it would work out just fine because I’m also getting behind Ervin Santana in a game under. Santana has lowered his ERA by more than half a run over his last three starts and has allowed just five runs in those three games. Gray got hit hard his last time out against the Pirates, but had put together two quality starts in a row before that.

This play is more of a feel play than anything else. Both pitchers should be confident going up against sort of bland offenses. The number is also a little higher than I’ve got it, which is ultimately the only real reason to make a play in any spot. Nine full runs is a nice cushion when you’re talking about two pretty established starting pitchers going up against offenses that really don’t put much of a scare into starting pitchers. Again, it’s for half a unit and this will be the first of three plays on the sixth.
