New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays June 1 Free Pick

By MLB

It’s a new month and it feels to be back making picks here in June. I explained in my last May post that last month was particularly front-loaded. And though I’m making a play right off the bat here in June, I’ll keep things spread out a little more as we move forward. For now, I’m eager to play the AL East matchup in Canada tonight.

Masahiro Tanaka and Aaron Sanchez will duel tonight in a rematch of an early-April matchup when New York eked out a 3-2 home win. That was just the second start for both Tanaka and Sanchez, who have been two of the best starting pitchers in the division thus far. Tanaka remains undefeated (3-0, 7 ND’s) and Sanchez is whipping to the tune of 1.20 and putting up pretty big strikeout numbers in the process. sbl

Toronto’s offense still scares me quite a bit whenever considering the under, but Tanaka has just been so consistently good that it’s really Sanchez that worries me more in such a spot. That’s mostly all due to New York’s offensive misery. The Yankees have scored three runs in the first two games of the series – both losses – and haven’t posted more than five runs in any of their last seven. The thing is, nothing about that is unusual. The Yankee bats are old and slow, which doesn’t bode well in a matchup with a guy who throws hard and comes right at the opponent. That’s Aaron Sanchez. But I’m still skeptical of his command, though he has looked good in two starts since walking nine in two outings in the middle of May. Those last two starts have both been quality and came against Minnesota and Boston. So you know what? If he can shut down Boston, the guy should be able to get away with a couple walks against New York. Have no fear; and let’s play the under.
