Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Francisco Giants April 9 Free Pick

By MLB

It’s been a rough start for the Arizona Diamondbacks. And after getting swept in two quick games Down Under, the Snakes dropped two more series to divisional opponents one game to two. The Giants were one of those teams to take two of three from Arizona as a visitor and now host the D-Backs for three by the bay. Bronson Arroyo and Tim Lincecum square off for the second time after the two opposed each other in an 8-5 Giants win a week back.  San Fran is a large -153 favorite in the rematch with a total of just 7.0.

This game should get some pretty attention on the over with Vegas dangling a juicy 7 flat in a game between two starting bronsonpitchers who struggle to completely shut offenses down. On one side is the veteran Bronson Arroyo, who is still adapting to life as an Arizona Diamondback. Plain and simple, Arroyo is a great pitcher and a model of consistency, but if I ever see a spot where I can profit from the opposition scoring at least three runs against him, I’ll almost always pounce on the chance. The same goes for Lincecum, whose determination to pitch more to contact as he gradually loses his velocity has been well documented throughout the off-season and into the start of play. The bottom line is that both of these pitchers are nice, but neither will shut down the other side, which means there will be pretty even scoring from both sides. In a spot where each team only needs three runs to earn at least a push, there’s a lot to like about the over here.

And it’s not like either offense has particularly struggled to begin the year. Mark Trumbo and Brandon Belt both lead the Major’s with five home runs each. With a healthy Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval and Hunter Pence, the Giants suddenly have one of the most feared lineups in the game. And with Trumbo, Goldschmidt and a productive Miguel Montero, Arizona certainly scores runs at an above-average clip for the time being. Each side should score at least three runs and there’s a pretty favorable chance that one goes for five or six. The over is the play.
