2015 Open at St Andrews Betting Picks

By Golf

This weeks sees the playing of the 144th Open Championship returning to the home of golf at St Andrews. This is the  event golf lovers have had in their calendars since Louis Oosthuizen lifted the Claret Jug back in July in the summer of 2010. The Open is the Rolls Royce of the majors and is being played where golf began 600 years ago. Seeped in history and on the bucket list of all golfers far and wide. The Open offers us another chance of seeing one of the superstars out there try and win on a links course.

St Andrews is far from the longest course on the planet but it does make up for it with other massive challenges. The wind and pot bunkers will make up for any length that may be missing. Accuracy off the tee box is critical along with club selection. When Tiger Woods won the open at St Andrews in 2005 he hit a 1 iron off most of the tees. Can the big cat get back to winning ways this weekend and start hunting down Nicklaus’ record or will the new star of golf Jordan Speith  make it 3 majors in a row? A feast of golf awaits. Below are my three picks who I believe will give great value over the weekend.

I’m using odds from Betonline.ag  You can check out our full BetOnline review here.

Jordan Speith (+500 BetOnline.ag)

In cruise control, Speith will believe he can win the open.

In cruise control, Speith will believe he can win the open.

Jordan Speith is simply in the form of his life after having one last weeks John Deere Classic as predicted here at sportsbet.com and his last win before that was the only the US Open. The man is stamping his authority on golf and is here to stay. Having won the first two Majors of the year the eyes of the golfing world will be on him as he attempts to win 3 in a row. Only a brave man would bet against him as he looks to make golf history. Winning is contagious and Jordan Speith is red hot at the moment.

Rickie Folwer (+1800 BetOnline.ag)

Rickie Fowler came up to Scotland last week to get ready for the open by playing in the Scottish Open. Well his preparation went better than expected as he won the tournament. Fowler loves links golf and loves proving people wrong. He was voted the most overrated player on tour two months ago, since then he has won the Players Championship and now the Scottish Open. The man is on the warpath and is coming into this tournament as a champion. Watch out for Fowler as he is going to be right up there come Sunday.

Branden Grace (+4000 BetOnline.ag)

Branden Grace is a links expert and will feel he is owed one after Chambers Bay.

Branden Grace is a links expert and will feel he is owed one after Chambers Bay.

Branden Grace loves links golf as he grew up at Fancourt which is a links course in South Africa. Grace Finished 4th at Chambers Bay a month ago and seems to have big match temperament that you have to possess to win a major. His ability to hit low stinging drives to counteract the wind is probably the best on tour and will provide him with one of the weapons needed to defeat St Andrews. Keep an eye on the South African as he will be pushing all the way to the Claret Jug.
