Texas @ Oklahoma State (Week 5 Preview Betting Line & Prediction)
This is the Big 12 opener to these two talented teams the Longhorns come into the contest ranked #10 at 3-0 overall and the Cowboys enter at 2-1. This will be a very entertaining contest as both teams can flat out score but the deciding factor will be who will get the most stops on the defensive end and protect the football on offense. The Horns most recently covered on the road at Ole Miss rolling to a 66-31 rout as a (10.5) favorite ATS. The Cowboys had their way with Lousiana-Lafayette 65-24.
Longhorn QB Ash was 19-23 at Ole Miss for (326) yards and four scores and the Horns were also +3 in the turnover category forcing three Rebel miscues. Texas is currently #16 in total offense led by a solid running game featuring Malcolm Brown and Joe Bergeron who has had a nicked up shoulder so check his status but sounds like he is a go. Oklahoma State QB JW Walsh tossed for (347) yards and four scores versus Louisiana-Lafayette for an offense that averages (62.3) points per game which leads the country but here is the rub. Okie State’s one loss was in Tucson versus Arizona two weeks ago where Rich Rod’s boys hung 59 on the Cowboy defensive charges….that’s not good considering Arizona was shutout on the road at Oregon last week.
Texas (-2.5) @ Oklahoma State (Betting Prediction)
These are two very good teams squaring off Saturday night in Stillwater but there is a reason the Horns are favored on the road even though the Cowboys own a two game win streak in this series. One stat to consider is the road team has covered five straight ATS in this series and the Cowboys have dropped five of the last six ATS as the host team in this series. If you need another angle the Longhorns have covered five of their last six following a bye week. Look for the balanced Longhorn running game of Brown (238) yards rushing on the year and Bergeron (207) yards to be too much for the Cowboy defense at the point of attack to handle as the Horns will control time of possession. Texas is also operating under double revenge in this spot and I look for them to set the tone early in this contest. Lay the points with the visitor. Prediction: Longhorns 38 Cowboys 27
