Nebraska -1 @ Michigan State

Just when we though Michigan State was left for dead, they find some late magic for the second year in a row in an upset win at Wisconsin.  MSU had come off consecutive losses to Iowa and Michigan but rallied in Madison after Badgers’ QB Joel Stave was knocked out of the game with a broken collarbone.  The Spartans struggled most of the game offensively (as they have all year) but were able to get a Le’Veon Bell touchdown with just over a minute to play and a touchdown pass in overtime to pull out the victory.

Meanwhile, Nebraska looks like the team to beat in the Big Ten Legends division.  Nebraska beat Michigan in impressive fashion last Saturday, allowing only 188 yards of total offense to the powerful Wolverine offense (albeit without Denard Robinson for much of the game).  With wins at Northwestern and against Michigan, the Huskers have set the table for a trip to the Big Ten championship – as long as they don’t slip up in East Lansing.

Looking at how Michigan State and Nebraska match up, the obvious battle will be between the Spartans stingy defense and the Huskers efficient offense.  MSU has allowed only 10 defensive touchdowns all season and has easily proven to have the best defense in the conference.  Unfortunately for MSU, as good as their defense has been, their offense as been equally as anemic.  QB Andrew Maxwell  along with a corps of inexperienced WRs have been very inconsistent.  On the other side, Nebraska is the much more balanced team.  They sport a solid defense and an offense capable of putting up points on anyone in the conference.

What will happen:  Despite MSU’s talent on defense, Wisconsin quarterback Joel Stave was 9 of 11 for 107 yards before leaving with an injury.  Had he not gotten hurt, Wisconsin probably beats Sparty a week ago.  Nebraska has quite a bit more fire power than Wisconsin and they’ll need all of it to put up points in East Lansing.  The good news is, they won’t need to score a lot.  Nebraska’s defense will shut down the high school offense of Michigan State and come out on top in a hard nose slugfest.

The Prediction:  Nebraska 20 Michigan State 10

The Play: Nebraska -1
