Hawaii @ Air Force -22.5
Air Force comes into the game as one of the many schools looking to obtain bowl eligibility. Friday night’s game is senior night and will be played in front of a national television audience with 23 seniors looking to win their last game at Falcon Stadium in what should be a cold and raucous environment.
On the other side, talk about a miserable year for the Warriors of Hawaii. It’s hard to believe that just a few years ago this team was playing in a BCS bowl. At 1-8, Hawaii enters its game at Air Force (5-5) as one of the worst FBS teams in the country. Their only win came against Lamar and none of their 8 losses were competitive. Even this past week, Hawaii officials canceled talks with Temple regarding a planned game at the end of this season citing “unforeseen circumstances” and potential financial losses (i.e. let’s get this season over as soon as possible).
If Hawaii has a “team strength”, I guess it would be defending the pass – although calling it a strength is like being the tallest midget. The problem here: Air Force plans to run the ball down Hawaii’s throat. The Falcons rank third in the nation in rushing yards per game (335 ypg). And while Air Force has only a middle of the pack defense, Hawaii ranks 117th out of 120 FBS teams in total offense (295.2 yards a game).
What will happen: Look for the Falcons to run, run and run some more against a Hawaii team that is more interested in getting back on the plane to the islands than playing this game. Normally, it might be possible for a team to overlook a weak squad like Hawaii, but not on senior night with a bowl game on the line. Air Force will score at will in the first half and will having senior reserves playing their hearts out in the second half in what should be a complete blowout.
