My Pick

Tellez is just 25 years old and fights out of Stafford, Texas. He has only 58 rounds of experience under his belt since making his pro debut in 2020 due to his perfect mark of 10-0 with 7 Ko’s as he’s gone the distance just three times. The first time was just six rounds against Cameron Krael in May, 2023 via a unanimous decision. The the second occasion was a 10-round unanimous nod over Joseph Jackson in April, 2024 and the third time was in his last contest against Julian Williams over 12 rounds in March.

While there’s no doubt he has fine power with a current knockout ratio of 70.8 per cent, he also possesses great boxing skills as he won every round on the scorecards in his first two decision victories and beat Williams by scores of 119-109, 117-111 and 118-110. Tellez measures 5-feet-10-inches tall with a 73-inch reach and enjoyed a fine amateur career as he made it to the quarterfinals of the 2019 Cuban National Championships and started his pro career with a couple of fights in Russia. None of his first five opponents had a winning record but his last five all did with a combined record of 132-10-1.

The 30-year-old Baraou turned pro in 2018 and has 119 rounds of experience under his belt since then. He stands just under 5-feet-10-inches tall with an unlisted reach inches which means he gives up just half-an-inch in height to Tellez. He makes the ring walk with an impressive mark of 16-1 with 9 Ko’s and isn’t a knockout artist by any means as 56.2 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. Four of his last six fights have gone the distance including his past three.

As an amateur, Baraou captured a bronze medal at the 2017 World Championships and a gold at the 2017 European Championships as a welterweight and was a three-time national champion. He won the German Junior Middleweight Title in 2018 in his second pro bout when he beat Denis Krieger by 10-round unanimous decision. Baraou added the vacant WBC International Junior Middleweight Belt in 2019 with a 12-round unanimous decision over Carlos Molina and the vacant IBO Continental Junior Middleweight Crown via a sixth-round TKO over Brian Damian Chaves in 2022.

Baraou then edged Sam Egginton by a 12-round majority decision in 2024 for the vacant European Junior Middleweight Title. He also has wins over Hugo Noriega, Jay Spencer, John O’Donnell and Ali Funeka. His lone defeat came at the hands of Jack Culcay via a 12-round split decision in 2020. All 17 of Baraou’s pro opponents entered the ring with a winning record.

Prediction…

Tellez is five years younger than Baraou and possesses fine power while Baraou has excellent boxing skills to go along with a solid chin. This is a good test for both boxers and there’s a good chance it goes the distance. I’m expecting a close fight but believe Tellez will do just enough to pull out a decision with a stoppage being a remote possibility.

Tellez has great power and boxing skills.
