Sebastian Fundora vs Keith Thurman Preview March 28th, 2026

WBC Junior Middleweight Champion Sebastian Fundora of West Palm Beach, Florida puts his belt on the line this Saturday, March 28th when he faces former WBA Super World Welterweight Titleholder Keith Thurman of Clearwater, Florida. The 12-rounder from Las Vegas, Nevada can be seen live on Prime Video pay-per-view in most nations as well as PPV.com. Fundora won the vacant WBC Belt and the WBO Title when he beat Tim Tzsyu via split decision in March, 2024 in a bloody battle. Fundora then defended both belts against Chordale Booker this March by fourth-round stoppage. However, the WBO stripped him for fighting a rematch with Tzsyu in July, which he won by seventh-round stoppage. Thurman fought for the first time in three years last March and halted Brock Jarvis in the third round.

  • Keith Thurman +254
  • Tim Tzsyu -350

My Pick

The 28-year-old Fundora, who’s known as ‘The Towering Inferno’ is a bit of a freak of nature as he stands just over 6-feet-5-inches tall with an 80-inch reach. This gives the southpaw a 7.5-inch height advantage over Thurman as well as an 11-inch edge in reach. However, similar advantages over Brian Mendoza didn’t help him out in April, 2023 when he was stopped in the seventh round to lose the WBC Interim Title. With that being his lone pro defeat, Fundora climbs into the ring with a near-perfect record of 23-1-1 with 15 Ko’s and has boxed 139 rounds since making his pro debut in 2016 following his amateur career.

Fundora has better-than average power to go along with a pretty good chin as 65.2 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. However, he has halted just three of his last seven opponents. His lone draw was a 10-round affair with Jamontay Clark in August, 2019 in a shot at the vacant WBC Youth Welterweight Title. Along with beating Tzsyu, Fundora has also beaten the likes of Carlos Ocampo, Erickson Lubin, Donnie Marshall, Nathaniel Gallimore, Habib Ahmed, Jorge Cota and Garcia as a pro.

The 37-year-old Thurman will enter the ring with an impressive record of 31-1 with 23 Ko’s. He won his WBA Welterweight Title via a unanimous decision over Robert Guerrero in March, 2015 and defended it against Luis Collazo with a seventh round stoppage; Shawn Porter by unanimous decision; Danny Garcia by split decision and Josesito Lopez by majority decision before losing it to Manny Pacquiao by split decision in 2019 after being dropped in the opening round. He also took Garcia’s WBC world title when he beat him in 2017.

Thurman’s a skilled boxer/puncher who combines speed and power to produce a fan-friendly style. He’s got enough power to stop most opponents and the boxing skill to win decisions if he has to go the distance. He’s not known as a KO artist, but 74.2 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. However, he’s gone the distance in five of his last six outings. He KO over Jarvis this year was his first since stopping Collazo back in 2015.

Thurman possesses an effective jab which he often doubles or triples up on. He likes to back his foe up with the jab and then unleash power shots or quick combinations to the head and body. He’s also an effective counterpuncher and an intelligent boxer overall who can throw punches from a wide variety of angles. His hardest shot is the left hook and his mobility makes him one of boxing’s best at the moment.

He’s not the easiest guy to hit, and so far his chin has appeared to be pretty solid but Lopez did appear to have him hurt in 2019 and Pacquiao scored a flash knockdown against him in the first round the same year. Thurman has boxed 175 rounds since turning pro in 2007 following an excellent amateur career that saw him reportedly go 101-6 with half of those losses coming to Demetrius Andrade. He stands just over 5-feet-9-inches tall with a reach of 69 inches.

Thurman has also won a few regional and minor titles since turning pro including the WBO NABO Super Welterweight Championship as well as the WBO Inter-Continental Welterweight Title. He’s 5-1 in world title fights with 1 KO and is 8-1 against former or current world champions with 3 Ko’s. He’s also beaten Julio Diaz, Jesus Soto-Karass, Diego Chaves and Carlos Quintana.

Prediction…

Like most of Fundora’s opponents, Thurman gives up a lot of height and reach to the champion but he arguably possesses more one-punch power than Fundora. He’s not as consistently relentless in his attack though unless he senses his opponent is hurt. Fundora usually doesn’t use his size advantage as he likes to work on the inside and until getting caught by Mendoza with a tremendous punch, it’s worked out quite well for him. This should be another interesting fight and it could go the distance but I think Fundora’s size and pressure will be a bit too much for Thurman. He’s also nine years younger than Thurman and Thurman has fought just twice in the last six years with his last fight being a full year ago. Inactivity won’t help him.

Fundora’s size and pressure should do the trick.
