Sathaporn Saart vs Luis Nery Preview Oct. 26th, 2025

Former WBC Super Bantamweight Champion Luis Nery of Mexico is back in the ring this Sunday, October 26th as he takes on Sathaporn Saart of Thailand. The 10-round featherweight contest takes place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Nery’s last bout was in February when he stopped Kyonosuke Kameda in the seventh round. In his previous outing in May, 2024 Nery was halted by Naoya Inoue in a shot at the IBF, WBC and WBO Super Bantamweight Titles. Nery dropped the champion in the first round but Inoue returned the favour in the second and fifth rounds before ending the contest a round later. Saart last stepped into the ring in May when he stopped Sang Yeon Kim after four rounds to retain his WBC Asisan Featherweight Belt.

My Pick

Saart is just 22 years old and makes the ring walk with a mark of 17-2 with 9 Ko’s and has boxed 108 rounds since making his pro debut in 2019 as a 16-year-old. He stands 5-feet-4-inches tall but has an unlisted reach. As far as power goes, he is just above average as 52.9 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage and he’s halted just one of his past seven opponents. Ten of his 19 opponents entered the ring with a winning record.

The first defeat on Saart’s record came in his pro debut at the hands of Thiranan Matsali by six-round unanimous decision and he didn’t lose again until 2024 when he was stopped by Mikito Nakano in the seventh round. The loss to Nakano has been Saart’s lone fight outside of his homeland of Thailand. Along the way, he’s captured the WBC Asian Silver Featherweight Title and the WBC Asian Belt.

Nery is a 30-year-old southpaw who has an impressive mark of 36-2 with 28 Ko’s and has boxed 188 rounds since making his pro debut in 2012. He stands 5-feet-5-inches tall with a 65-inch reach, so has an inch edge in height on Saart. He possesses good power in his fists as 77.8 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. His last three four victories have come by knockout after going three contests without one. Nery is fan-friendly boxer who throws punches in bunches and also owns a pretty solid chin despite being dropped three times by Inoue.

He won the vacant WBC Super Bantamweight Title in September, 2020 via a unanimous decision over Aaron Alameda but was stopped in his first defence via a body shot from Brandon Figueroa in the seventh round. Nery has also captured the vacant WBC Continental Americas Bantamweight Title with a 10-round unanimous decision over Martin Casillas in 2016 and the vacant WBC Silver Bantamweight Title with a fourth-round stoppage over Raymond Tabugon in 2016 after being dropped in the first round.

He stopped Shinsuke Yamanaka in the fourth round in 2017 to lift the WBC Bantamweight crown. Nery fought Yamanaka in a rematch in 2018 but came in overweight to lose the title. However, he still managed to win the fight by second-round stoppage. He then won the vacant WBC Silver Bantamweight title again in October, 2018 with a third-round stoppage of Jason Canoy. He defended that belt with a ninth-round KO over Juan Carlos Payano in July, 2019 four months after stopping McJoe Arroyo after four rounds.

Since losing to Figueroa he’s bounced back with a split decision win over Carlos Castro for the vacant WBC Silver and the WBO Intercontinental Super Bantamweight Titles, then stopped David Carmona in the third round before halting Azat Hovhannisyan in the 11th round and Froilan Saludar in the second before being dismantled by Inoue and bouncing back against Kemeda.

Prediction…

Nery is a hard-hitting and exciting boxer who is moving up to featherweight while Saart is eight years younger with much less power and experience. He’s also fighting outside of his homeland for just the second time after losing in Japan on his first road trip. Nery has certainly fought tougher opposition as a pro and I don’t see how Saart will be able to keep him at bay for 10 rounds. Im expecting Nery to eventually work his way inside and stop Saart.

Nery is aggressive with the power to end a fight with one punch.
