My Pick

The 32-year-old Edwards hails from Sutton, Surrey and enters the ring with an impressive 20-2 mark with 7 Ko’s. He’s fought 167 rounds since making his pro debut in 2015 and has little power as just 35 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage and he’s halted just one of his last nine opponents. Edwards does make up for it with his skills, heart and hustle however. Before turning pro he enjoyed a fine amateur career and won a bronze medal at the European Championships in 2011 in Ankara, Turkey.

Since turning pro he’s also captured the English and WBC International Silver Flyweight Titles as well as the British and WBA Continental Super Flyweight Crowns. Edwards stands 5-feet-6-inches tall with a 66-inch reach. His first pro defeat came at the hands of John Riel Casimero in September, 2016 when he was stopped in the 10th round in a shot at the IBF World Flyweight Title. Edwards beat Cristofer Rosales by unanimous decision back in 2018 to win his world title.

He defended it by unanimous decision against Angel Moreno but was then stopped in the third round by Julio Cesar Martinez. The decision was later changed to a no-contest when it was ruled that Martinez hit Edwards while he was down. Edwards has fought six times since that August, 2019 bout. However he hasn’t exactly faced the cream of the crop in his division in the rest of his fights as his best wins have been against the likes of Rosales, Angel Moreno, Anthony Nelson, Iain Butcher, Luke Wilton, Thomas Essomba, George Ory and Louis Norman.

As for Juarez, he’s 32 years old and climbs through the ropes with a mark of 20-9-2 with just 4 Ko’s. With just 20 per cent of his wins coming by stoppage, Edwards looks like a power puncher to compared to Juarez. The native of Mexico City has fought 216 rounds since making his pro debut in 2011. There’s no height and reach information for Juarez so we don’t know how he measures up against Edwards in those areas.

Juarez has been beaten nine times but stopped just once as Argi Cortes halted him in the ninth round in August, 2024. He fought for the vacant WBC FECOMBOX Bantamweight Belt in 2017 against Rodrigo Guerrero but dropped a 10-round split decision. He did manage to capture the WBC Latino Super Flyweight Title in 2021 with a 10-round unanimous decision over Geraldo Valdez. He later lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Victor Reyes Bernabe in 2023 in a shot at the WBC International Title.

At one point in his career, Juarez endured a five-fight winless streak of three losses and two draws between 2011 and 2012. he also lost three of fight bouts from 2017 to 2019 and has been defeated in two of his last five outings. The lost time Juarez stopped an opponent was in June, 2021 when he halted Jonathan Arias in the sixth round after also dropping him in the fourth round.

Prediction…

Edwards is a bit underrated to some people and a bit overrated to others. Both of these boxers lack power but have decent chins so there’s a good chance this fight goes the distance. Is a sharp boxer and unless Juarez dominates him or lands a perfect punch I believe Edwards will have his hand raised in victory here.

Edwards has the slicker skills.
