Richard Commey vs Nahir Albright Preview October 18th, 2025

Former IBF Lightweight Champion Richard Commey of Accra, Ghana is back in the ring for just the second time since March, 2023 when he faces Nahir Albright of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this Saturday, October 18th. The 10-round junior welterweight bout can be seen live on Millions.co. Albright last boxed in June when he beat Kelvin Davis by a 10-round majority decision for the vacant WBC USA Silver Junior Welterweight Title. In Albright’s previous outing he dropped a 10-round majority decision to Keyshawn Davis (Kelvin’s brother) in a shot at the WBC USA and WBO Inter-Continental Lightweight Titles. However the result was changed to a no-contest after Davis tested positive for marijuana. Commey’s last battle took place in August when he stopped William Jackson in the second round.

My Pick

Commey is now 38 years old and fights out of New York City. In February, 2021 he decided to make a comeback after a devastating second-round knockout loss at the hands of Teofimo Lopez in December 2019 and stopped Jackson Marinez in six rounds. He was then derailed by Vasyl Lomachenko in December, 2021 when he was dropped in the seventh round and lost a 12-round unanimous decision. He fought in 2022 and battled to a 10-round draw with former world champion Jose Pedraza and was then stopped by Jose Ramirez in the 11th round in March 2023. Commey then sat out until returning to the ring this August.

This sees Commey make the ring walk with a mark of 31-5-1 with 28 Ko’s. He won the vacant IBF Lightweight Title with a second-round stoppage over Isa Chaniev in February, 2019 then stopped Ray Beltran in the eighth round in his first defence in June. He won the title in his second shot as he fought Robert Easter for the vacant belt in 2016 and dropped him in the eighth round but lost a split decision. His other career loss came three months later when he dropped another split decision, this time to Denis Shafikov. Commey turned pro in 2011 and has boxed 214 rounds since.

He’ obviously got quite a bit of power as 90.3 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage (28 of his 31). Commey stands 5-feet-8-inches tall with 71-inch reach which means he’s got a minimal half-inch reach on Albright. Commey’s biggest career wins have been against the likes of Chaniev, Beltran, Bilal Mohammad, Gary Buckland and Yardley Cruz. Since turning pro, he has also won the Ghanaian, IBF Continental Africa, African Boxing Union, Commonwealth, IBF Inter-Continental, and WBC International Silver Lightweight Titles.

Albright is 29 years old and climbs through the ring ropes with a mark of 17-2 with 7 Ko’s. He turned pro back in 2016 after s good amateur career and has 109 rounds of experience under his belt since. He measures 5-feet-8-inches tall with a 70.5-inch reach. When it comes to power, Albright is considered to be just below average as just 41.2 per cent of his wins have come by way of stoppage and he’s gone the distance in six of his past seven outings.

Albright was beaten in his pro debut as he dropped a four-round majority decision to Anthony Lauerano in 2016 and didn’t lose again until February, 2022 when he lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Jamaine Ortiz in a shot at the vacant NABF Lightweight Title. Other than Ortiz and Davis, Albright hasn’t really beaten any other recognizable opponents with his biggest wins coming over Carlos Balderas, Michael Dutchover and Estivan Falcao. He also beat Jeremy Hill by eight-round unanimous decision in July, 2021 for the NABA USA Lightweight Title.

Prediction…

Commey has a lot more power than Albright but he’s almost 10 years older than him. Albright possesses good boxing skills and speed and will have a good shot at winning this bout as long as his chin holds up. This should be a close fight which could go either way but I think Albright’s style is a bit more effective though especially if he lets his hands go.

Albright just edges Commey in the skills department.
