Delgado vs Valenzuela Betting Odds
Here are the betting odds from online sportsbook BetOnline.ag (full review here).
- Gabriel Valenzuela +483
- Lindolfo Delgado -800
My Pick
Delgado’s a 30-year-old with a perfect record of 23-0 with 16 Ko’s. He’s boxed 120 rounds since making his pro debut in 2017 following an amateur career which saw him compete as a lightweight at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil, where he lost in his first contest. He also won silver medals at the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games and the 2015 Pan American Games and competed in the World Series of Boxing. He measures 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 68-inch reach.
Delgado has more than enough power to be considered dangerous as his current knockout ratio clocks in at 69.6 per cent and he’s halted three of his last five opponents and six of his past 12. He won the vacant WBO Latino Junior Welterweight Title in 2014 with a 10-round split decision over Bryan Flores. He dropped Flores in the third round and Flores had a point deducted in the seventh frame for a low blow. Delgado hasn’t really faced any big-name opponents as his biggest wins have been against Rodriguez, Flores, Jackson Marinez, Carlos Sanchez, Luis Hernandez Ramos and Clarence Booth.
The 31-year-old Valenzuela makes the ring walk with a mark of 31-4-1 with 17 Ko’s and has fought 200 rounds since making his pro debut in 2015. At 5-feet-10-inches tall with a 73-inch reach, he has a one-inch edge in height on Delgado and five inches in reach. As far as power is concerned, Valenzuela doesn’t matching Delgado however as 55.8 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage and he’s stopped just two of his past eight opponents.
The first loss in Valenzuela’s career came at the hands of Luis Ramos by fourth-round TKO in 2016 and he lost his very next fight when he dropped a six-round unanimous decision to William Zepeda. He didn’t lose again until 2022 when he lost a close 12-round unanimous decision to Montana Love by scores of 114-112 across the board in a shot at the IBF North American Super Lightweight Title. Valenzuela was dropped in the first round of that tilt while he returned the favour by decking Love in the second stanza.
His biggest battle came in March of this year when he took on Subriel Matias in a slugfest but was stopped in the eighth round of a close contest. The lone draw on Valenzuela’s record is an eight-round affair with Jessie Wilcox in 2018. His biggest win came in 2022 when he beat Robbie Davies Jr via a 10-round majority decision for the vacant IBF Inter-Continental Super Lightweight Belt. He also stopped Nery Saguilan in four rounds in 2019 for the vacant WBC Fecarbox Crown and has wins over Yves Ulysse Jr, Steve Spark, Yeis Gabriel Solano, Juan Jiminez and Jesus Cuadro.
Prediction…
Delgado has quietly gone about his business and built up a fine record but hasn’t taken on any world contenders. Gonzalez held his own against Matias but ultimately succumbed to his power. This is a good test for both boxers and is a must-win if they hope to one day land a world title shot. I’ll give Delgado a slight edge as he is the better overall boxer and possesses more power.
Delgado has a slight overall edge here and he’s still unbeaten.
