Keyshawn Davis vs Edwin De Los Santos Preview June 7th, 2025

Unbeaten WBO Lightweight Champion and former amateur star Keyshawn Davis defends his belt against southpaw Edwin De Los Santos of the Dominican Republic this Saturday, June 7th. The 12-rounder from Davis’ hometown of Norfolk, Virginia can be seen live in America on the full ESPN platform. Davis last fought on Valentine’s Day when he stopped Denys Berinchyk in the fourth round to win the world title. In his previous outing he halted Gustavo Lemos in the second round to defend his WBO Inter-Continental, WBC USA, and IBF USBA Lightweight Belts. De Los Santos hasn’t seen action since November, 2023 when he dropped a unanimous decision to Shakur Stevenson in a shot at the vacant WBC Lightweight Belt in one of the worst title fights in boxing history.

My Pick

The 26-year-old Davis enters the fight with a perfect record of 13-0 with 9 Ko’s and has fought 84 rounds since making his pro debut in February, 2021. Davis enjoyed a superb amateur career which saw him win silver medals at the 2019 Pan American Games, the 2019 World Championships, and the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan as a lightweight, losing to Cuba’s Andy Cruz in the final of each of those tournaments. Davis stands 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 70-inch reach and has had no problem adapting to pro boxing when it comes to power as he currently owns a knockout ratio of 69.2 per cent.

The only opponents to go the distance with him so far have been Jose Meza, who went six rounds in May, 2021 but lost every round in a unanimous decision defeat; Juan Carlos Burgos in December, 2022 who also lost every round; Francisco Patera in July, 2023, who went 10 rounds but was dropped in the eighth and managed to win just one round on one judge’s scorecard and Miguel Madueno, who won just one round on all three scorecards in July 2024. Nahir Albright also went the full 10 rounds and with Davis and earned a draw with one judge in October, 2023 but that majority-decision win for Davis was changed to a no-contest after he tested positive for marijuana.

Exceptional speed and power are what Davis brings to the ring as he continues his pro career. Understandably, he was brought along somewhat cautiously but each opponent he’s faced entered the ring with a winning record. He took a step up in class by facing a former world champion in Jose Pedraza in February, 2024 and stopped him in the sixth round to win the vacant IBF USBA Belt. Davis won the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Belt with his win over Burgos in December, 2022 and then picked up the vacant WBC USA Belt when he stopped Anthony Yigit in the ninth round four months later.

The 25-year-old De Los Santos boasts a fine record of 16-2 with 14 big Ko’s. He’s boxed just 60 rounds since making his pro debut in 2018 and that’s due to recording all 14 of his stoppages by the sixth round. In fact, he’s stopped six opponents in the first round, six in the second round and one in the third and one in the sixth. He definitely has tremendous power in his fists as 87.5 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage.

De Los Santos measures 5-feet-8-inches tall with a 70-inch reach so gives up an inch in height to Davis. The first defeat on De Los Santos’ record came in January, 2022 when he dropped an eight-round split decision to William Foster III. Most of his early opponents were unranked fighters to kick off his pro career with but he managed to win the vacant WBA Fedecaribe Super Featherweight Crown in 2019 with a 52-second stoppage of Antoni Armas.

He added the vacant WBA Fedecaribe Lightweight Title a year later when he stopped Juan Perez in 62 seconds and the vacant WBC Latino Super Featherweight Belt in 2021 when he halted Luis Alvarez in the first round. He then captured the WBC Continental Americas Lightweight Belt by stopping Jose Valenzuela in the third round and defended it against Joseph Adorno via a unanimous decision and also has a win over Luis Acosta.

Prediction…

De Los Santos is an aggressive fighter who had no clue how to compete against Shakur Stevenson in his last outing and the fans were treated to a terrible 12-round non-fight. This is his first time back in the ring and he has a lot to prove to the fans since that performance and of course he’ll be facing ring rust. Davis possesses fantastic boxing skills and speed and doesn’t rely on his power to win, but it’s always there. Hopefully the best version of De Los Santos will show up and if he does it has the potential to a good fight especially considering his power, but I’m expecting Davis to defend his belt this weekend. However, he may have to go the distance to do so.

Davis has the better skills and good power.
