Jake Wyllie vs Youseff Dib Preview August 23rd, 2025

Jake Wyllie takes on fellow Australian lightweight Youssef Dib in a 10-round bout from Fortitude Valley this Saturday, August 23rd. Wyllie last fought in April when he stopped Saharat Taehirun in just 71 seconds. Dib’s last fight resulted in a 10-round unanimous decision loss to Liam Wilson in March. Wilson had a point deducted in round nine for a low blow while Dib was dropped in the first and second rounds. That was a rematch of their fight eight months earlier which saw Wilson stop Dib in the seventh round. This weekend’s bout is for the vacant Australasian Lightweight Title. Saturday’s fight should be available on DAZN with a 6am ET start.

My Pick

The 25-year-old Wyllie makes the ring walk with a record of 17-2 with 16 Ko’s and has boxed just 64 rounds since making his pro debut in 2020. As an amateur he competed in the 2019 Australian National Championships and Arafura Games, the 2017 and 2018 Australian Youth and Junior National Championships, the 2016 Australian Golden Gloves and the 2015 Australian National championships. . Wyllie measures 5-feet-7-inches tall with an unlisted reach.

As far as power is concerned, the young man has plenty of it as 16 of his 17 wins have come by stoppage for a knockout ratio of 94.1 per cent. The only victory he had to go the distance in was an eight-round split decision over Dana Coolwell in 2021 for the vacant Australian National Boxing Federation Australasian Lightweight Title. In fact, Wyllie has heard the final bell in just two pro outings. His first defeat came at the hands of Faavesi Isaako via a third-round TKO in 2023.

His fight against Allan Villaneuva this February was declared a no-contest in the third round after Villaneuva was cut due to an accidental clash of heads and a month later he dropped a 12-round unanimous decision to former world champion George Kambosos Jr. In November, 2024 Wyllie stopped Dylan Emery in the fourth round to win the vacant Australian Junior Welterweight Title. He also won the vacant Australian National Boxing Federation Queensland Junior Welterweight Belt in 2021 when he halted Matt Powell in just 46 seconds. He added the vacant Australian National Boxing Federation Australasian Junior Welterweight Belt in 2023 when he stopped Kye MacKenzie in 136 seconds.

The 32-year-old Dib climbs through the ropes at 21-3 with 11 Ko’s and has 126 rounds of experience under his belt since turning pro in 2015 after a fine amateur career. As an amateur he fought in the 2013, 2015 and 2015 Australian National Championships and made it to the Final in 2014 and the semifinals in 2015. He also lost to George Kambosos Jr and Josh Taylor as an amateur. Dib is the brother of former world champion Billy Dib. At 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 69-inch reach, Dib is two inches taller than Wyllie.

He possesses less power than Wyllie as 52.4 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including four of his past five. However he’s lost three of his past four contests. As a pro, Dib captured the vacant Australian Super Lightweight Title in 2021 with a 10-round unanimous decision over Hunter Ioane and the vacant Australasian Lightweight Belt via a ninth-round TKO over Miles Zalewski in 2023. However he lost the belt in his first defence when he suffered his lone pro defeat at the hands of Ibrahim Balla by 10-round majority decision. His other two defeats were his last two outings, against Liam Wilson.

Prediction…

Wyllie is seven years younger than Dib and has a lot more power. He doesn’t have the same experience though. But considering the fact that Dib’s chin isn’t the sturdiest, I’m expecting Wyllie to win this fight either by stoppage or by dropping Dib along the way to a decision.

Wyllie has a definite edge in power and is seven years younger.
