Floyd Schofield vs Tevin Farmer Preview June 28th, 2025

Former IBF Super Featherweight Champion Tevin Farmer of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania takes on unbeaten Floyd Schofield of Jersey City, New Jersey this Saturday, June 28th. The 10-round lightweight fight from Anaheim, California is on the undercard of the Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. card and can be seen live in most nations on DAZN pay-per-view. Farmer dropped a 12-round majority decision to William Zepeda in his last outing in March for the interim WBC Lightweight Title. Zepeda had also beaten him by a 10-round split decision in their first meeting four months earlier. It was Farmer’s third straight loss as he dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Raymond Muratalla last July in a shot at the NABA Lightweight Belt and the vacant WBO NABO Title. Schofield last saw action in November when he beat Rene Tellez Giron via a 12-round unanimous decision despite being knocked down in the 11th round.

My Pick

Schofield is just 22 years old and he enters the ring with a perfect mark of 18-0 with 12 Ko’s. He’s boxed 77rounds since making his pro debut in 2020 as a teenager following a successful amateur career which saw him reportedly go 180-20. Schofield, who stands 5-feet-7-inches tall with an unlisted reach, now fights out of Austin, Texas. He possesses pretty good power as 66.7 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. However he’s halted just two of his past six opponents.

Since turning pro Schofield has won the vacant Texas Super Featherweight Title as well as the vacant NABF Junior Super Featherweight belt and the vacant American Boxing Federation Inter-Continental Lightweight Crown. His toughest opponent so fat has been Giron and he’ll be stepping up in class against Farmer. He also has wins over Danny Flores, Daniel Rosas, Alberto Mercado, Jesus Leon, Haskell Rhodes and Ricardo Torres.

The 34-year-old Farmer is a southpaw who won the vacant IBF Super Featherweight title in August, 2018 via a unanimous decision over Billy Dib. He defended it against James Tennyson by fifth-round stoppage in October, by unanimous decision over Francisco Fonseca in December and by unanimous decision over Jono Carroll in March, 2019 before beating Guillame Frenois by unanimous decision. He then lost the belt to Joseph Diaz by unanimous decision six months later. He’s also beaten Maxi Hughes and Mercito Gesta.

Farmer originally fought for the vacant IBF Super Featherweight Title in December, 2017, but dropped a split decision to Kenichi Ogawa. Many fans and experts thought Farmer had done enough to win and the bout was later changed to a no-contest when Ogawa failed a drug test. Farmer measures 5-feet-6-inches tall with a 67-inch reach, so gives up an inch in height to Schofield. Farmer had a brief amateur career before turning pro in 2011. Since then he’s boxed 325 rounds and enters the bout with a record of 33-8-1 with just 8 Ko’s to his name.

After losing his pro debut when he was stopped in four rounds by Oscar Santana, Farmer then dropped a four-round unanimous decision to Josh Bowles eight months later and drew Frank De Alba in his next fight. Three fights later, Farmer lost an eight-round decision to Kamil Laszcyk before being stopped by Jose Pedraza in eight rounds in 2012. He didn’t give up though despite losing four and drawing one of his first 12 pro fights. Farmer then went on a 23-fight winning streak before losing to Diaz.

He hasn’t fought many world class contenders though with his best wins being over Tennyson, Avery Sparrow, Billy Dib, Ivan Redkach, Emanuel Gonzalez and Gamaliel Diaz. He lacks power as just 24.4 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage but he’s halted two of his past five opponents and dropped Zepeda in their first fight. Of course, Schofield knows he can’t take him lightly because Farmer possesses fine boxing skills, a lot of hand speed and has deceptive power. Farmer’s improved a lot over the years and his chin isn’t bad at all even though he’s been stopped twice.

Prediction…

Schofield has the edge in power and arguably boxing skills as well due to his extensive amateur career. However, Farmer withstood the barrage of punches from Zepeda and surprisingly dropped him in round four in the first of their two close calls. Farmer has faced tougher opposition as a pro and his skills and durability could frustrate Schofield, who’s 12 years younger. This is a close call as I’m not sure what Farmer has left in the tank after a pair of wars against Zepeda. No result here will surprise me but I have a feeling Farmer may stop his three-fight losing streak and pull off a mild upset.

Farmer’s experience could be the difference here.
