My Pick
Rosa is just 25 years old and owns a perfect record of 8-0 with 2 Ko’s. He’s got 79 rounds of experience to his name since turning pro in 2020 following his amateur career. He’s a southpaw who stands 5-feet-3-inches tall with a 65-inch reach but doesn’t have much in the way of power as his current knockout ratio clocks in at just 25 per cent. Rosa won the vacant WBC Latino Minimumweight Belt in his pro debut with a 10-round unanimous decision over Oscar Bermudez Salas.
He defended the title with a unanimous decision over Byron Castellon and a third-round stoppage of Kenny Cano. Rosa up the level of competition in 2021 when he beat Vic Saludar in December, 2021 by 12-round split decision for the WBA regular Mini Flyweight Belt. He dropped Saludar in the third and ninth rounds and was decked himself in the 10th. Due to negotiation problems Rosa didn’t fight again until August, 2023 when he halted Orlando Pino after eight rounds. He followed that up with unanimous decision wins over Yudel Reyes and Neider Aguilar last year.
The 23-year-old Takami also has a perfect record as he makes the ring walk at 9-0 with 7 Ko’s. He’s fought just 38 rounds as a pro since making his debut in 2022 due to his power, which sees his knockout ratio ranked at 78 per cent. He’s gone the distance just twice as a pro in his nine bouts. Takami measures just over 5-feet-5-inches with a 65.5-inch reach for a two-inch edge in height over the champion. Takami was an amateur high school boxing star.
Takami has fought exclusively in Japan as a pro with his most-recognizable opponent being Wulan Tuolehazi of China, with Takami beating him via an eight-round unanimous decision last July. All nine of Takami’s opponents entered the ring with a winning record. He has recorded three knockouts in the first round; one in the second; one in the fifth and two in the sixth. He’s gone the eight-round distance just twice in his career.
Prediction…
Rosa and Takami are two fine young prospects with Takami having the advantage in height and power and is also fighting in his homeland. They match up closely in most other areas but those advantage may be just enough to see Takami become the new champion this week. The fight may come down to the will to win and heart. So basically, whoever lets his hands go the most and shows he wants to win it will have the edge and that could be Takami.
A tossup with Takami having a slight edge.
