My Pick
Pacheco is just 24 years old and already owns a perfect record of 23-0 with 18 Ko’s and has boxed 104 rounds since making his pro debut in 2019. He enjoyed a fine amateur career as he made it to the quarterfinals of the 2017 USA Youth National Championships and 2018 World Youth Championships, won the 2018 USA Youth Open and reached the final of the 2018 USA Western Regional Final and the semifinals of the 2017 USA Jr Olympics.
Pacheco possesses an abundance of power in his punches with a current knockout ratio of 78.3 per cent and had won nine fights in a row by stoppage until Shawn McCalman took him the 10-round distance in April, 2024. He’s now gone the distance in two of his last three fights. His biggest pro wins to date have come over Maciej Sulecki, Manuel Coceres, Manuel Gallegos, Jack Cullen, Oscar Riojas, Juan Antonio Mendez, Rodolfo Gomez Jr, Lucas de Abreu, Raul Ortega and Enrique Collazo.
Just one of his 23 opponents entered the ring with a losing record. Pacheco won the vacant WBC USA Super Middleweight Belt in September, 2022 when he stopped Enrique Collazo in the fifth round and captured the vacant WBO International Belt with his fourth-round TKO over Cullen in March, 2023. At 6-feet-4-inches tall Pacheco’s got great height for a super middleweight and also owns a 79-inch reach.
The 32-year-old McCumby, who fights out of the Phoenix, Arizona area, owns a fine mark of 28-1 with 21 Ko’s but was basically an unknown boxer on the world scene until fighting Caleb Plant last year. He has 104 rounds of experience under his belt since turning pro in 2010 as a teenager. As an amateur he made it to the semifinals of the 2009 USA Junior National Championships. He measures 6-feet tall with a 74-inch reach so gives up four inches in height and five inches in reach to Pacheco. McCumby also possesses good power as 75 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including five of his last seven.
McCumby has faced just one legitimate contender as a pro and that was Plant. Up until then his biggest bouts were against boxers such as Milton Nunez, Brian Holstein, Dion Savage, Donovan George, Jessie Nicklow, Felipe Romero, Vicente Martin Rodriguez and Rodolfo Ezequiel Martinez. McCumby has fought just four times since November, 2018 as he stepped away from the sport after his win over Romero and didn’t return until stopping Rodriguez in May, 2023.
Prediction…
Pacheco has the size of a heavyweight and a lot of power in his fists which makes him a great prospect as a super middleweight for as long as he can make the weight. McCumby is a solid pro who also carries plenty of power. However he is eight years older than Pacheco, gives up a lot of height and reach and hasn’t faced the same level of opposition. Still, he should be a decent test for Pacheco and can’t be taken lightly. However Pacheco’s physical advantages should enable him to tag McCumby on his way in. It’s possible the fight may go the distance but I’m expecting Pacheco to remain unbeaten with his 24th straight win this weekend.
Pacheco’s size and experience should pull him through.
