Christian Mbilli vs Maciej Sulecki Preview June 27th, 2025

There’s a pretty good 12-round super middleweight bout on tap from Quebec City, Canada this Friday, June 27th as unbeaten Christian Mbilli of Cameroon takes on Maciej Sulecki of Poland for the interim WBC World Title. Mbilli last fought in August when he beat Sergiy Derevyanchenko of Ukraine via a wide 10-round unanimous decision to retain his WBC Continental Americas Super Middleweight Title. Sulecki last saw action in February when he halted Ali Akhmedov in the 10th round to win the vacant WBC Silver Super Middleweight Belt in a bit of an upset. The 12-round bout can be seen live in America on ESPN+.

My Pick
The 30-year-old Mbilli, who fights out of France, enters the ring with a perfect record of 28-0 with 23 Ko’s and has boxed 132 rounds since making his pro debut in 2017. He enjoyed a finer amateur career as he fought for his adopted homeland at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro where he was beaten in his third contest. He stands just over 5-feet-8-inches tall with a 72-inch reach and has quite a bit of power loaded in his fists with a current knockout ratio of 82.1 per cent but has gone the distance in three of his past six fights.
Mbilli has been the distance just five times as a pro though and was taken the 10-round distance in his last six outings by Carlos Gongora, Vaughn Alexander and Derevyanchenko. As a pro he’s also captured the vacant WBC World Youth, WBC Youth Continental, and WBC Francophone Titles. Mbilli originally won the vacant WBC Continental Americas Super Middleweight Belt in 2021 when he stopped Ronny Landaeta in the third round. He has defended it against Ronald Ellis, Nadjib Mohammedi, DeAndre Ware, Vaughn Alexander, Carlos Gongora, Demond Nicholson, Rohan Murdock, Mark Heffron and Derevyanchenko.
The 36-year-old Sulecki hails from Warsaw and he’s entering the contest with a mark of 33-3 with 13 Ko’s to his name. He’s fought 237 rounds since his pro debut in 2010 and is a former Polish Middleweight and Super Middleweight Champion. He doesn’t have much in the way of power though as just 39.4 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage and he’s halted just three of his last 11 opponents. He’s got some good skills however along with a relatively solid chin and has fought between junior middleweight and super middleweight as a pro.
Sulecki’s got good size as he’s 6-feet-1-inch tall with a 68-inch, so is 4.5-inches taller than Mbilli but gives up four inches in reach. Sulecki’s most memorable bout was his 12-round unanimous decision defeat to former world champion Daniel Jacobs in April, 2018 when he was dropped in the 12th round. His other loss came at the hands of Demetrius Andrade by unanimous decision in 2019 in a shot at the WBO Middleweight Title and a sixth-round KO by Diego Pacheco last August in a shot at the WBC USA, and WBO International Super Middleweight Belts.
Sulecki has beaten some other solid opponents such as Jack Culcay, Gabriel Rosado, Hugo Centeno Jr., Derrick Findley, Darryl Cunningham and Grzegorz Proksa. He owns a pretty solid chin despite being stopped by Pacheco and dropped in the 12th and final round by Jacobs and twice by Rosado. His win over Rosado in 2019 was for the vacant WBO International Middleweight Belt. He decked Rosado in the first and eighth rounds and was dropped himself twice in round nine. He’s also a former Polish Middleweight Champion.
Prediction…
Mbilli has the edge in age, speed, power and boxing skills while Sulecki is in the twilight of his career. However Sulecki stopped Ali Akhmedov in his last fight in an upset. Sulecki doesn’t really have much of a puncher’s chance here though and would need to outwork and outbox Mbilli. However I expect Mbilli to remain unbeaten this weekend due to his superior movement and boxing skills. Mbilli is a big betting favourite here but there’s a chance this fight goes the distance still.
Mbilli is a class above Sulecki at this stage of their careers and is six years younger.
