My Pick

Walsh is a southpaw who’s just 24 years old and he enters the ring with a perfect record of 15-0 with 11 Ko’s and has 61 rounds of pro experience under his belt since making his debut in 2021. He stands 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 72-inch and possesses better-than-average power with an impressive current knockout ratio of 71.5 inch reach and has impressive power as his current knockout ratio clocks in at 73.3 per cent and he’s halted four of his last half dozen opponents. Walsh enjoyed a fine amateur career as he reportedly captured six Irish National Titles along with a European gold medal.

He started boxing as a six year old and had his first bout at the age of 11. As a pro, Walsh won the WBC USA Silver Junior Middleweight Title in 2023 by stopping Carson Jones in the fourth round. He defended the belt twice and added the WBC Continental Americas Crown in 2024 by halting Dauren Yeleussinov in the ninth round and has defended it four times. Walsh has also beaten the likes if Fernando Vargas, Elias Espadas, Dean Sutherland, Carlos Cervantes Ismael Villarreal, Wesley Tucker and Juan Jose Velasco.

Ocampo is now 30 years old and owns an impressive record of 38-3 with 26 Ko’s to his name. He turned pro back in 2012 and has 199 rounds under his belt since then. He was a fine amateur who won silver medals at the Mexican National Olympiads in 2009 and 2011. Ocampo measures just over 5-feet-10 inches tall with a 73-inch reach which gives him a 1.5-inch height and reach advantage on Walsh. Ocampo’s first pro defeat came by stoppage to Errol Spence Jr in a shot at the IBF Welterweight Title in 2018 as he was caught cold in the first round.

His second loss came to Sebastian Fundora via unanimous decision in 2022 in a shot at the interim WBC Super Welterweight Belt and his third defeat saw him last just 77 seconds against Tim Tszyu in an attempt at the WBO Interim Junior Middleweight Title in 2023. Since then he’s bounced back with three straight stoppage wins against limited opposition. Ocampo also possesses better-than-average power as 68.4 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including his least seven.

The biggest wins of Ocampo’s career have come against Jorge Paez Jr, Johnny Navarrete, Charlie Navarro, Adrian Perez, Jorge Garcia Perez, Abraham Ramirez and Daniel Echeverria. He won the vacant WBC Latino Super Welterweight title in January, 2022 when he stopped Omir Rodriguez in the first round and added the vacant WBC Continental Americas Super Welterweight Crown two months later by stopping Mikael Zewski in the ninth round.

Prediction…

Walsh is six years younger than Ocampo and hasn’t faced the same level of opposition as a pro. However when Ocampo did step up in class against Errol Spence, Sebastian Fundora and Tim Tszyu he didn’t really fare too well. Still, Ocampo is also a good boxer with enough power of his own and has a slight size advantage. This doesn’t appear to be an easy fight for Walsh and it’s a good test for him. He’ll need to work Ocampo to the head and body to eventually wear him down. I’m expecting the younger Walsh to earn a victory in a hard-fought battle with a stoppage being a possibility.

Walsh has speed and power on his side.
