My Pick
Biyarslanov, who resides in Toronto, Canada, is a 30-year-old southpaw who climbs through the ropes with a perfect record of 19-0 with 16 Ko’s. He’s known as a powerful puncher as his current knockout ratio stands at 84.2 per cent with 10 of his last 11 wins coming by stoppage. Biyarslanov turned pro in 2018 following a good amateur career which saw him capture a gold medal at the Pan American Games in 2015 and represent Canada at the Summer Olympics in 2016 and the World championships in 2015.
The native of Russia won the vacant NABF Junior Welterweight Title in 2024 when he stopped Elias Mauricio Haedo in the fourth round. He defended the belt with a third-round TKO over Tamas Kiliti; a 10-round unanimous decision over Jonathan Jose Eniz and a second-round TKO over Mohamed Mimoune. Biyarslanov stands just over 5-feet-8-inches tall with an unlisted reach and will be taking a step up in class as a pro as he’s fought mainly domestic-level opponents so far.
Former IBF Super Lightweight Champion Sergey Lipinets won that vacant title in November, 2017 with a unanimous decision over Akihiro Kondo. The 36-year-old is now 18-4-1 with 13 Ko’s. He also carries good power in his fists as 72.2 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. He’s halted just one of his last six opponents though and his record is two wins, three losses and a draw in that span. Lipinets turned pro in 2014 after a fine amateur career and is also a former WAKO Kickboxing Champion.
He has 178 rounds of pro experience and stands 5-feet-7-inches tall with a 67-inch reach, so is 1.5-inches shorter than his opponent. Lipinets’ first career loss came via a 12-round unanimous decision to Mikey Garcia in March, 2018 in which he lost his IBF Crown in his first defence. His second defeat came at the hands of Jaron Ellis when he was stopped in the sixth round in April, 2021 and he dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Michel Rivera in November, 2023. He also lost his last contest, when he was stopped in the ninth round by Adam Azim in his last outing.
His biggest wins have come against former world champions Lamont Peterson and Omar Figueroa. The other recognizable opponents he’s faced and beaten are Robbie Davies Jr, Erick Bone, Walter Castillo and Cosme Rivera. His lone draw was a 12-round majority affair with Custio Clayton in October, 2020 for the Interim IBF Welterweight Belt. Lipinets, who fights out of California, also won the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Welterweight Title in July, 2019 when he stopped Jay Ar Inson in the second round.
Prediction…
Lipinets and Biyarslanov both possess plenty of power and Lipinets has been stopped twice. Lipinets has far more experience against upper-level opponents but has struggled lately as he’s now 36 years old and is understandably slowing down a bit. Biyarslanov is six years younger but is facing his stiffest test as a pro. However, it’s one I’m expecting him to pass as long as he gives it his best effort.
Biyarslanov is six years younger with more power.
