Arslanbek Makhmudov vs Ricardo Brown Preview June 27th, 2025

Two hard-hitting but aging heavyweights will be going at it over 10 rounds this Friday, June 27th as Arslanbek Makhmudov of Russia will be taking on Ricardo Brown of Jamaica. The fight comes from Quebec City, Canada and can be seen live in America on ESPN+. Makhmudov, who fights out of Montreal, Canada, last fought in August when he was stopped by Guido Vianello in the eighth round. It was his second defeat in his past three outings as Agit Kabayel halted him in the fourth round in December, 2023 to lose his NABF, and WBA Inter-Continental Heavyweight Belts. In between, he halted Miljan Rovcanin in the second stanza in May of last year. Brown fights out of Brampton, Ontario, Canada and his last fight in October resulted in an eight-round unanimous decision over Adam Kolarik after dropping him in the final round.

My Pick
The 36-year-old Makhmudov makes the ring walk with a record of 19-2 with 18 Ko’s. There’s no denying his power as 94.7 per cent of his wins have been by stoppage with Carlos Takam being the only man to last the distance with him and go past the seventh round as well before being stopped. In fact, 12 of his stoppages have come in the very first round. Makhmudov made his pro debut in 2018 and has just 56 rounds of experience under his belt due to his tremendous knockout record and questionable chin.
Before turning pro, he had a fine amateur career and also fought in the World Series of Boxing. Makhmudov stands just over 6-feet-5-inches tall and reportedly has an 80-inch reach. So far, the biggest wins of his career have been against Rovcanin, Junior Anthony Wright, Michael Wallisch,Takam, Pavel Sour, Jason Bergman, Jonathan Rice, Samuel Peter, Erkan Teper and Mariusz Wach. Since turning pro he’s also captured the NABA, WBC Continental Americas and vacant WBC Silver Heavyweight Crowns.
As for the hard-hitting Brown, he’s a year younger at 35 and carries around a perfect mark of 12-0 with 11 Ko’s and has banked just 25 rounds since making his pro debut in 2022. Before that he also enjoyed a fine amateur career which saw him compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the super heavyweight division and was also one of Jamaica’s flagbearers. He also won a bronze medal at the 2019 Pan American Games. He measures just over 6-feet-7-inches tall with an unlisted reach so is two inches taller than his Russian opponent Makhmudov.
Brown has stopped all but one of his 12 opponents for a knockout ratio of 91.7 per cent but hasn’t faced the same level of foe that Makhmudov has. The only man to go the distance with Brown has been Adam Kolarik who lasted eight rounds in his last outing. However Kolarik was dropped in the eighth round. In fact, the only recognizable opponent Brown has faced has been Pavel Sour, who he stopped in two rounds in 2023. Brown also likes to get things over early as six of his knockout have come in the first round.
Prediction…
Both boxers have very heavy hands and Makhmudov has been stopped in his two pro defeats. Makhmudov may be a one-dimensional fighter but he’s pretty good at what he does and hasn’t needed to display any fine boxing skills so far. Brown is the better boxer with equal power but I doubt he’s been hit by anybody as powerful as Makhmudov in his career. Anything is possible here and this fight likely won’t go the distance. It’s going to come down to power, chins and the will to win and I’ll give Makhmudov the slight edge due to his greater pro experience. If Brown can handle his heaviest shots though, Makhmudov may be in trouble.
Makhmudov’s experience should be the difference.
