My Pick
The 33-year-old Ramirez is a southpaw who makes the ring walk with a perfect mark of 22-0 with 19 Ko’s and has fought just 84 rounds since making his pro debut in 2018. As an amateur he fought as a light heavyweight at the 2016 Summer Olympics and won a silver medal at the 2015 PanAmerican Games. He stands just under six-feet-tall and has a 75-inch reach. Ramirez has excellent power in his arsenal as his current knockout ratio clocks in at 86.4 per cent. He has halted his last four opponents and has gone the distance as a pro on just three occasions.
Ramirez hasn’t exactly taken on the cream of the crop in the light heavyweight division though as 10 of his 22 opponents entered the ring with a losing record but he does have solid wins over Lenin Castillo, Braian Nauhel Suarez, Ricardo Luna, Adam Deines, Michael Flannery, and Marko Calic. He won the vacant WBC Fecarbox Light Heavyweight Title in 2022 by stopping Victor Hugo Exner and took the vacant WBO Global Cruiserweight Belt the next year when he stopped Jacob Dickson in just 172 seconds. Ramirez also won the vacant WBA International Light Heavyweight Crown in 2024 via a 10-round unanimous decision over Artur Ziyatdinov.
Richards is also a 33-year-old southpaw and he climbs through the ropes with an impressive mark of 19-1 with 4 Ko’s and has fought 131 rounds since turning pro in 2013. He also enjoyed a fine amateur career as he reportedly racked up a record of 91-9 and represented Ghana at the 2012 African Olympic Qualifiers where he was beaten in the quarterfinals by Abdelmalek Rahou. He also won a bronze medal at the 2013 English National Championships and reached the Final of the 2010 British Youth Championships where he lost to Liam Williams.
At 5-feet-11-inches tall with a 71-inch reach, Richards gives up just half-an-inch in height to Ramirez as well as four inches in reach. As far as power is concerned, he isn’t in the same league as his opponent as just 21.1 per cent of his victories have come by stoppage and he’s halted just one of his past dozen opponents. Richards won the vacant WBO European Super Middleweight Belt in 2017 with a 10-round unanimous nod over Rhys Pagan. He added the vacant WBO International, and Commonwealth Super Middleweight Crowns in 2019 with a 12-round unanimous decision over Tommy Langford.
He won the British Title the same year with a 12-round split decision over Lennox Clarke and captured the vacant EBU European Super Middleweight Title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Giovanni De Carolis in 2021 and in the same year won the IBO version via a 12-round split decision over Carlos Gongora. Richards’ lone defeat came at the hands of Steed Woodall via a sixth-round TKO in June, 2024 in a shot at the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Super Middleweight Crown.
Prediction…
Both boxers have fine skills but Richards doesn’t match Ramirez when it comes to power. In addition, most of Richards’ pro boxing success has come in the super middleweight division while Ramirez is a fully fledged light heavyweight. This is a bull vs matador type of match with Ramirez definitely being the bull. Despite the wide odds, this could go either way really but I think Ramirez’s power may be a factor some where along the line so I’m giving him a slight edge.
Ramirez is used the the weight and has more power.
