My Pick
Takei is a 28-year-old southpaw who has fought just 50 rounds since making his pro debut in 2021. He is a former kickboxer who held the K-1 Super Bantamweight Championship between 2017 and 2020, and was the 2017 and 2019 K-1 Super Bantamweight Grand Prix Champion. Takei retired from kickboxing in late 2020 and at the time, he was the top-ranked 122 lb boxer and eighth best pound-for-pound kickboxer in the world. He makes the ring walk with a perfect mark of 10-0 with 8 Ko’s and won the Oriental and Pacific Super Bantamweight title in his fifth fight when he stopped Pete Apolinar in the fifth round in August, 2022.
It’s quite obvious that Takei has exceptional power as he’s stopped every opponent other than Moloney and Higa for an 80 per cent knockout ratio. This includes three first-round stoppages; two in the second round; one in the third; one in the fifth and one in the 11th. His victories have come against Higa, Moloney, Apolinar, Kazunori Takai, Azusa Takeda, Kazuhiro Imamura, Shingo Kawamura, Bruno Tarimo, Ronnie Baldonado and Mario Diaz Maldonado. Takei measures 5-feet-7-inches tall with a 67.5-inch reach.
Tongdee is 31 years old and owns a perfect record of 15-0 with 9 Ko’s and has 83 rounds of experience under his belt since making his pro debut in 2020. Before that he enjoyed a good amateur career which saw him reach the quarterfinals of the 2018 President’s Cup Tournament and also beat Robeisy Ramirez in Cuba. He won the 2016 FISU World University Championships and the 2018 Thailand Open Tournament and captured a bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games. Tongdee also participates in Muay Thai where he’s known as Dang Sor.Ploenchit.
Tongdee is a former Rajadamnern Stadium Light-Flyweight Champion as he beat Prakaithong Sitnoi by decision for the vacant title in 2011. As a boxer, he beat Ryan Rey Ponteras by unanimous decision for the vacant WBA Asia Bantamweight Title in 2022 and defended it by stopping Herlan Gomez in the eighth round and by 10-round unanimous decision over F.Zoramchhana in 2023. Tongdee possesses good power as his current knockout ratio clocks in at 60 per cent and he’s stopped four of his past five opponents. He measures 5-feet-3-inches tall with an unlisted reach so gives up four inches in height to Takei.
Prediction…
There’s no question Takei has successfully made the transition from kickboxing to boxing and Tongdee has done the same from Muay Thai. They each have power with Takei having the edge there and the champion is also four inches taller. He’s fighting at home in Japan while Tangdee will be boxing outside of Thailand for the first time as a pro. Takei is still relatively new to boxing and he ran out of gas late in the Moloney fight when Moloney really poured on the pressure over the last few rounds in a desperate attempt to hold onto his title. He also arguably lost to Higa a slugfest last year. This should be an exciting contest but as long as Takei lets his hands go like he usually does he should to hang onto his belt in another barnburner of a fight. It should also be closer than the odds suggest
This is a close call with Takei having the edge in power and size.
