Marko Cvetanovic vs Josh Padley Preview April 19th, 2025

Josh Padley of England returns to the ring in Sheffield this Saturday, April 19th to battle it out with unbeaten Marko Cvetanovic of Belgrade, Serbia. The 10-round lightweight bout is reportedly for the WBA International Lightweight Title and can be seen live on DAZN in most nations. Padley was a late replacement for original opponent Floyd Schofield against WBC Lightweight Champion Shakur Stevenson in February and made a name for himself despite being stopped in the ninth round for his lone pro defeat. Padley’s previous outing resulted in a 10-round unanimous decision over Mark Chamberlain in October. Chamberlain was down in the eighth round and had a point deducted in the ninth for pushing. Cvetanovic last fought in June when he stopped Viorel Simion after three rounds due to an injury.

  • Josh Padley -1250

My Pick

The 29-year-old Cvetanovic is a southpaw who enters the ring with a perfect mark of 13-0 with 6 Ko’s. He has 53 rounds of experience under his belt since turning pro in 2021 following his amateur career. He stands 5-feet-10-inches tall with an unlisted reach and owns average power as just 46.1 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage and he’s halted three of his past eight opponents. He may be unbeaten as a pro but just two of his 13 opponents have entered the ring with a winning record. This will be Cvetanovic’s first pro fight outside of Serbia.

The 29-year-old Padley hails from Doncaster and makes the ring walk with a fine record of 15-1 with 4 Ko’s and has 99 pro rounds under his belt since making his debut in 2019 following an amateur career. Unfortunately there’s no height and reach information for the Englishman so we don’t know how he stacks up size-wise against Cvetanovic. As far as power is concerned, Padley is lacking in this area as his current knockout ratio in his victories clocks in at just 26.7 per cent.

Padley has recorded just four stoppages as a pro but three of them have come in his past five fights. He won the British Central Area Lightweight Title in March, 2023 with a decision over Jimmy First and then captured the vacant Universal Boxing Organization Lightweight Belt nine months later by stopping Lydon Chircop after six rounds. Padley took a huge step up in class against Shakur Stevenson as just five of his first 15 opponents entered the ring with a winning record.

Prediction…

Padley held his own against Shakur Stevenson due to his aggressive style and his performance led him to give up his day job as an electrician and focus solely on his boxing career. Cvetanovic is unbeaten but both boxers have fought limited opposition, other than Stevenson, and he’s never fought on the road. This is a pretty good matchup between two boxers who appear to be at the same level. We’ll find out if Padley’s performances against Mark Chamberlain and Stevenson were just freak events or if he really has what it takes to succeed in the lightweight division. His confidence should be sky high after those two fights and I’m expecting him to rebound with a win.

Padley’s experience against Chamberlain and Stevenson will be valuable here.
