Unbeaten lightweight prospect Teofimo Lopez of Brooklyn, New York will be taking on European Lightweight Champion Edis Tatli of Kosovo this Saturday, April 20th. The 10-round bout will be taking place at Madison Square Garden in New York on the undercard of the Terence Crawford vs Amir Khan showdown and can be seen in North America on pay per view and on BT pay per view in the UK. My Pick

Lopez is just 21 years old, but he’s one of the sport’s top prospects right now due to his whirlwind, non-stop style in the ring. He climbs through the ropes with a perfect mark of 12-0 and has 10 Kos to his name. He’s got dynamite in his fists with a current knockout ratio of 83 per cent. However, just the sheer volume of punches he throws usually stops his opponents. He’s 5-feet-8-inches tall with a wingspan of 68.5 inches. He turned pro in November of 2016 and has fought just 41 rounds since.

Lopez enjoyed a fine amateur career and fought for Honduras at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro where he lost in the first round of the competition. He’s a former national Golden gloves Champion and has had no problem adapting to pro boxing. Lopez simply likes to overwhelm his opponents with as many punches as possible and so far has beaten the likes of Magdaleno, Mason Menard, William Silva, Vitor Jones, Juan Pablo Sanchez and Francisco Medel.

Most fans have probably never heard of the 31-year-old Tatli, but he is the European Champion. He won the vacant title back in April of 2015 when he beat Yvan Mendy by unanimous decision and has defended it six times since. He hails from Kosovo, but fights out of Helsinki, Finland and carries around a record of 31-2 with 10 Kos. Tatli turned pro in 2007 and has boxed 232 rounds since. He was also the European Champion briefly in 2012 and captured the WBA Inter-Continental Crown in 2013.

Tatli stands 5-feet-9-inches tall so has a slim one-inch height edge on Lopez. He doesn’t have much in the way of power though with a current knockout ratio of only 30 per cent. Tatli’s lone career loss came at the hands of Francesco Patera by way of split decision in May of 2017. However, he won the rematch by unanimous decision six months later to regain his title. He’s also beaten the likes of Felix Lora, Innocent Anyanwu, Mzonke Fana, Richar Abril and Cristian Morales.

Prediction…

Lopez is an extremely talented and confident young man while the veteran Tatli is a decade older and has plenty of experience. Tatli doesn’t have the power to keep Lopez at bay though and that’s going to be his downfall as Lopez beats him.

Lopez should be too fast and powerful.
