MY PICK

The 34-year-old Mosley Jr, who fights out of Las Vegas, isn’t on the same level as his famous father but is still a solid pro in his own right with a record of 22-4 with 12 Ko’s and has looked quite impressive lately. He stands 6-feet-1-inch tall with a 77-inch reach so is three inches taller than Ramos with a five-inch edge in reach. Mosley has boxed 145 rounds since making his pro debut in 2014 after reportedly going 37-10 as an amateur. He isn’t really known as a heavy hitter but 54.6 per cent of his wins have come by way of knockout. He’s stopped two of his last three opponents but went the distance in five of the previous six outings.

Mosley’s four defeats came at the hands of Marchristopher Adkins by four-round split decision in his third pro fight; by eight-round split decision to David Toussaint in 2017; a 10-round unanimous decision to Brandon Adams in 2018 and a 10-round majority decision to Jason Quigley in 2021 for the vacant WBO NABO middleweight title. As far as pro titles go, Mosley also captured the vacant WBO NABO Super Middleweight Title in February, 2021 when he stopped Cristian Olivas after five rounds and the vacant WBO NABO Middleweight Belt when he halted D’Mitrius Ballard in the seventh round in June, 2023. His toughest tests to date have been Adams, Ballard, Quigley and Gabriel Rosado.

Ramos Jr is just 23 years old and is a southpaw. He’s boxed 114 rounds since turning pro in 2018 as a teenager. As an amateur, he reached the semifinals of the 2017 USA Youth National Championships. He climbs through the ropes with a fine mark of 23-1 with 19 big Ko’s and possesses plenty of power as 82.6 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including his last four straight. Ramos measures At 5-feet-10-inches tall with a 72-inch wingspan so is definitely giving up a size advantage to Mosley.

Ramos took a step up in class against Erickson Lubin in 2023 and came out on the wrong end of a 12-round unanimous decision for his lone defeat. Since then he stopped Johan Gonzalez in the ninth round, Jeison Rosario in the eighth and Guido Schramm in the third round. Ramos also has wins over Joseph Spencer, Esteban Garcia, Jesus Emilio Bojorquez, Javier Molina, Brian Mendoza and Luke Santamaria. He also stopped Vladimir Hernandez in February, 2022 to capture the vacant WBC USA Silver Super Welterweight Title.

PREDICTION…

Ramos struggled somewhat against Erickson Lubin when he stepped up in class but has bounced back with three straight stoppages as he’s not interested in what the judges have to say. Meanwhile Mosley is also on a pretty good roll with five consecutive wins since dropping a decision to Jason Quigley in 2021. Ramos has explosive power while Mosley has a solid chin so this makes it an interesting matchup as Mosley also has a distinctive height and reach advantage. Ramos typically is more aggressive than Mosley and if he applies the pressure all night long he should emerge with another win, but he may have to go the distance to do it.

Ramos’ aggressiveness should do the job.
