Iglesias vs Shishkin Betting Odds

Here are the betting odds from online sportsbook BetOnline.ag (full review here).

  • Vladimir Shishkin +910
  • Osleys Iglesias -2500

My Pick

The 27-year-old southpaw Iglesias fights out of Berlin, Germany and makes the ring walk with a perfect mark of 13-0 with 12 Ko’s and has just 43 rounds of experience under his belt since turning pro in 2019. Before that he enjoyed an extensive amateur career and won a silver medal at four straight Cuban National Championships from 2015 to 2018. He also participated in the World Series of Boxing in 2017.

It’s obvious that Iglesias has excellent power in his punches as he boasts a current knockout ratio of 92.3 per cent and has gone the distance just once as a pro when Isaac Chilemba took him 12 rounds in May 2022 when Iglesias captured the vacant IBO International Super Middleweight Belt. In his previous bout four months earlier, Iglesias won the vacant IBO World Youth Super Middleweight Crown by stopping Robert Racz in just 145 seconds.

Iglesias has good size for the 168 lb division as he stands just over 6-feet-2-inches but unfortunately has an unlisted reach. Like most elite Cuban boxers, he possesses polished skills to go along with his tremendous power. He also has wins over Sena Agbeko, Marcelo Coceres, Arthur Reis, Andrii Velikovskyi, Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna and Rafael Sosa Pintos. Iglesias has a fan-friendly style with six first-round knockouts and has recorded three in the second round and was recently ranked fifth in his division by the WBC and 10th by the IBF.

As for Shishkin, he’s 34 years old and fights out of Florida. He enters the contest with a fine mark of 16-1 with 10 Ko’s and has boxed 125 rounds since making his pro debut in 2016 following his amateur career. He reportedly went 301-29 as an amateur and also competed in the World Series of Boxing. He measures 6-feet-1-inch tall with a 73-inch wingspan so is 1.5-inches shorter than Iglesias.

Shishkin also has better-than-average power as 62.5 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage, including four of his past six. Shiskin’s lone pro defeat came at the hands of William Scull in his last outing. He hasn’t really taken on any elite opponents as of yet but does have wins over Gasan Gasanov, Nadjib Mohammedi, DeAndre Ware, Ulises Sierra, Oscar Riojas, Sena Agbeko, Jose Uzcategui, Jeyson Minda, Ramon Ayala and Mike Guy.

Prediction…

Both boxers have power but Iglesias’ has been exceptional in his first 13 pro fights. Shiskin will need to try to keep the aggressive Iglesias at bay and earn his respect but I don’t really think he’s going to be able to do it for the full 12 rounds. I definitely give the edge to Iglesias unless he turns out to have a porcelain chin. We don’t really know yet as he’s ended most of his fights before his opponents have had the chance to hit him. He’s also seven years younger than Shishkin with more speed and better overall skills. The odds tell the story here really.

Iglesias should be too slick and powerful for Shiskin.
