My Pick
The 30-year-old Rodriguez makes the ring walk with a mark of 25-2-1 with 17 Ko’s. He made his pro debut in 2015 and has boxed 169 rounds since. He possesses pretty good power as 68 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage but has halted just one of his past five opponents. Rodriguez’s first defeat came in March, 2018 when he dropped a a 10-round split decision to Jose Garcia and his second loss came to Jerwin Ancajas by unanimous decision in a shot at the IBF Super Bantamweight Title in April, 2021, after being dropped in the eighth round.
Rodriguez measures 5-feet-5-inches tall with a 66.5-inch reach. Since turning pro, Rodriguez has captured the WBC Fecombox Super Flyweight Title with a third-round stoppage of Alejandro Perez in September, 2018 and also won the interim version of the title a year earlier. He also has wins over Juan Ramirez Marquez, Eduardo Hernandez, David Reyes Cota and Juan Gonzalez.
Cintron is also 30 years old and the southpaw makes the ring walk with a record of 13-1 with 6 Ko’s. He has 83 rounds of pro experience under his belt since making his debut in 2017. He’s not known as a hard hitter as just 46.2 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including just one of his past five. He enjoyed a fine amateur career and was the first Puerto Rican to box at two Olympic Games as he fought for his homeland in 2012 in London, England and again in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and also competed in the World Series of Boxing.
Boxing’s in Cintron’s blood as his father Javier competed as a pro from 1990 to 2008 going 14-11-2 with 10 Kos. Cintron measures 5-feet-7-inches tall with a 70.5-inch reach so is two inches taller than Rodriguez and has a four-inch reach advantage. He won the vacant WBO Youth Bantamweight Title in July, 2018 with an eight-round unanimous decision over Gregory Vera and then added the vacant WBO Latino Super Flyweight Crown in his next outing with a 10-round unanimous decision over Alonso Melendez.
He fought for the vacant WBO International Super Flyweight Belt against Koki Eto 2019 and was originally beaten via a first-round TKO. However the fight was changed to a no-contest when camera replays showed Cintron was headbutted before being stopped. Cinton and Eto met in a rematch three months later with Cintron taking a 10-round unanimous decision for the same vacant belt. His lone defeat came at the hands of Kazuto Ioka via a 12-round unanimous decision on New Year’s Eve, 2019 in a shot at the WBO Super Flyweight Belt. After losing to Ioka, Cintron didn’t fight again until June, 2024 for various reasons.
Prediction…
Cintron was a good young boxer with a pretty solid chin and plenty of skills but he’s been quite inactive since 2019 with just two fights in 2024 and none last year. Rodriguez is in the same boat really as this will be his first contest since July, 2023 so both of the 30-year-olds may have a lot of ring rust. Rodriguez has quite a bit more power but Cintron possesses the better skills as well as the size advantage. I’m expecting Cintron to earn a win here in a relatively close contest.
Ioka’s world class and fighting at home.
