Anderson Silva vs Tyron Woodley Preview Dec. 19th, 2025

Two legends of the octagon will be battling it out in the ring this Friday, December 19th as Anderson Silva of Sao Paulo, Brazil and Tyron Woodley of Ferguson, Missouri meet in a six-round cruiserweight fight. The contest from Miami, Florida can be seen live on Netflix in most nations on the undercard of the Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua bout. Both Silva and Woodley are former opponents of Paul with Silva losing by an eight-round unanimous decision in 2022 after being dropped in the final round. Woodley dropped an eight-round split decision to Paul in August, 2021 and was stopped in the sixth round of their rematch four months later. This will be the first pro boxing match for both men since losing to Paul.

  • Tyron Woodley +215
  • Anderson Silva -290

My Pick

Silva is now 50 years old and has a record of 3-2 in his five pro boxing contests with 20 rounds of experience. He was stopped after one round in his 1998 debut by Osmar Luiz Teixeira and didn’t fight again until meeting Julio Cesar De Jesus in 2005. He pounded out a second-round KO in his second outing and then followed up with an eight-round split decision over former WBC Middleweight Champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in 2021. Chavez, of course, was Jake Paul’s last opponent and suffered a 10-round unanimous decision defeat to him in June.

Silva won his third consecutive boxing match when he stopped Tito Ortiz in just 81 seconds three months after besting Chavez Jr. His last bout was the loss to Paul in October, 2022. At just over 6-feet-2-inches tall with a 78-inch reach, the southpaw Silva has good size for the 200 lb cruiserweight division. His power also carries over to the boxing ring as 67 per cent of his wins have been by stoppage and he’s been halted once himself.

The 43-year-old Woodley has fought just twice in the ring with his losses to Paul back in 2021. He’s fought 14 rounds as a boxer and has been stopped once. He measures just 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 74-inch reach so gives up close to six inches in height to Silva as well as four inches in reach. He fights out of the orthodox stance and has been stopped in one of his two bouts. On the bright side, he’s seven years younger than Silva.

Prediction…

Silva is regarded as the better boxer in this matchup due to his timing, precision and understanding of distance and he has a big size advantage here. Woodley is seven years younger though and is known for his powerful right hand. Both boxers no longer possess the speed of their youth but they still have a fighter’s instinct and IQ. Silva is more relaxed and economical with his punches and shows more patience in the ring. He paces himself and likes to get into a rhythm. Woodley has the power to rock Silva, but he’s going to have to work his way inside to do so. He needs to let his hands go with combinations and take some risks instead of trying to overthink things and wait for the single perfect punch. Overall, I believe Silva’s the better boxer regardless of his age and he should have his hand raised in victory and the end of this match.

Silva has more boxing experience and has a big edge in size.
