Amanda Serrano vs Reina Tellez Preview Jan. 3rd, 2026

Amanda Serrano of Puerto Rico is set to battle unbeaten Reina Tellez of Vero Beach, Florida this Saturday, Jan. 3rd with Serrano’s WBO, IBO and WBA Featherweight Titles on the line. The 10, three-minute round fight can be seen live on DAZN in most nations. Serrano last fought in July when she lost a 10-round majority decision to Katie Taylor in their trilogy match with Taylor’s three super lightweight titles on the line. The two first met in April, 2022 with Taylor winning a hotly-disputed split decision to retain her IBF, WBC and WBO Lightweight Titles. Serrano and Taylor then met in a rematch in November, 2024 with Taylor once again winning a highly-controversial decision, this time a unanimous nod with scores of 95-94 across the board despite being deducted a point for headbutting in the eighth round. Tellez’s last contest resulted in an eight-round unanimous decision against Mayela Perez in September.

My Pick
Amanda Serrano is a 37-year-old southpaw who owns a fine record of 47-4-1 with 31 Ko’s and has 256 rounds of experience under her belt since turning pro in 2009. She now resides in Brooklyn, New York and also has experience in wrestling and mixed martial arts. Serrano stands just over 5-feet-5-inches tall with a 65.5-inch reach and has good power in her fists as 66 per cent of her wins have been by stoppage but has gone the distance in nine of her last 10 fights and in 11 of the past 16.
Serrano is a former Staten Island, New York City Golden Gloves, and Empire State Amateur Champion and has won numerous regional and minor pro titles. Since turning pro, she’s also captured the WBC and IBO Featherweight Titles as well as the IBF World Female Super Featherweight, WBO World Female Lightweight, WBO World Female Super Bantamweight, WBO World Female Bantamweight, WBO World Female Super Lightweight, and WBO World Female Super Flyweight Titles.
Her first defeat came at the hands of Frida Walberg in April, 2012 when she lost by a 10-round unanimous decision in a shot at the WBC World Female Super Featherweight Title. She appeared to do enough to beat Taylor in April, 2022, which was a fight-of-the-year candidate, but came out on the wrong end of a split decision for the IBF/WBC/WBO Lightweight Titles, while her draw came in 2009 in a four-round affair with Ela Nunez. Serrano has weighed between 118 and 138.5 lbs during her pro career and has actually won titles in seven different weight classes.
She also has wins over Sarah Mahfoud, Erika Cruz Hernandez, Kimberly Connor, Fatuma Zarika (twice), Calista Silgado, Yazmin Rivas, Dahianna Santana (twice), Marilyn Hernandez, Eva Voraberger, Daniela Bermudez and Yamileth Mercardo. Serrano has lost just three times in the last 13 years over a span of 36 fights with all three defeats coming at the hands of Taylor. All of her victories have come by way of stoppage or unanimous decision except for her pro debut which was a four-round majority decision over Jackie Trivilino.
Tellez is just 22 years old and fights out of San Antonio, Texas. She has a near-perfect mark of 13-0-1 with 5 Ko’s and has 65 rounds of experience under her belt since making her pro debut back in 2021 as a teenager. She measures just 5-feet-tall with an unlisted reach and possesses decent power for the female division as 38 per cent of her wins have come by stoppage. However she’s gone the distance in her last six contests. The lone blemish on her pro record is a one-round technical draw with Maria Hernandez Brito in her pro debut.
Tellez captured the vacant WBC Youth Featherweight Title in July, 2024 with a six-round unanimous decision over Wendellin Cruz. Two months later she won the vacant NABA Super Bantamweight Belt via an eight-round unanimous nod over Jermesha Poke. And just two months after that, Tellez added the vacant NABF Bantamweight Title with an eight-round unanimous decision over Perla Lomeli. Tellez likes to stay busy as this will be her third fight this year after entering the ring seven times last year. As an amateur she won gold medals at the 2015 and 2017 National Junior Olympics and the 2018 National Golden Gloves championship. Tellez also captured silver medals at the 2018 and 2019 National Junior Olympics.
Prediction…
This bout is supposed to feature three-minute rounds. I believe Serrano should have been given the decision in her first two fights with Katie Taylor but she and her team made a huge mistake in the third meeting by trying to outbox Taylor instead of just going after her like she did in the first two contests. Serrano is naturally aggressive and needs to box that way in the ring. Tellez is 15 years younger and of course doesn’t have the experience of Serrano but she enjoyed a successful amateur career and is a legitimate opponent. I believe if Serrano punches in volume and stays on the front foot for all 10 rounds she will win the fight but her -10000 odds sure seem out of whack for this contest. With them being sky high for Serrano you’ve got nothing to lose by putting a few dollars down on Tellez and then crossing your fingers.
Serrano’s aggressiveness and volume punching should do the trick.
