Iowa State +14 @ Oklahoma State

Iowa State travels to Stillwater, Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma State this Saturday a week after coming off a tough home loss to #5 Kansas State.  The Cyclones played KState tough before coming up short 27-21.  Oklahoma State manged a “W” last week, albeit in an ugly 20-14 struggle at home versus Big 12 doormat Kansas.  The two teams come in looking to win a key game in the race for conference bowl positioning.

Looking at the tale of the tape between these two teams, the Cowboys look to be the better team on paper, and offensively they are.  Oklahoma State ranks 7th, 9th and 3rd in the nation in passing, rushing and scoring compared to 94th, 87th, and 78th for the Cyclones in the same categories.  But if we’ve learned anything about Big 12 football so far this year, it’s that anyone can score on anyone but there are few defenses that have proven to be effective week in and week out.

Iowa State sports one of the few respectable defenses in the Big 12.  In fact, the Cyclones “D” is one of the best in the league.  In their last three games, they’ve held the high powered offenses of Texas Tech, TCU and Kansas State to a combined 57 points.  Conversely, Oklahoma State has given up 41, 65, and 59 points against the three quality teams they have played this year.

What Will Happen:  Iowa State doesn’t have much of an offense.  But as we’ve seen so far this year, it doesn’t take much to put up points against Oklahoma State.  And funny things tend to happen when “juggernaut” offenses in the Big 12 play teams with solid defenses – they aren’t able to put up the arena-like numbers they are used to.  Iowa State may not have the horses on offense to beat the Cowboys on the road, but their defense should definitely keep them within the number.

Prediction:  Oklahoma State 33  Iowa State 24

The Play: Iowa State +14

ATS Record: 4-5
