2011 Roland Garros Odds To Win

By Tennis

The 2011 Roland Garros tournament, sometimes referred to as the French Open, is set to get underway next week in Paris.  This tournament marks the end of the clay court season in tennis and is one of the four Grand Slam events that players train for and love to win.  Rafael Nadal has owned this tournament on the men’s side for the past several years, but Serbian Novak Djokovic has gone 37-0 to open 2011 and has defeated Nadal in their past two clay court meetings!  It is going to be a very interesting tournament on the men’s side, and it would be a very surprising feat if either of these two top players did not win the tournament.  Even Roger Federer is a distant third favourite by the oddsmakers, coming in at long +1800 at 5Dimes.

Here are the top 10 favourites for the Roland Garros championships with the odds from 5Dimes Sportsbook:

  • Nadal +100
  • Djokovic +170
  • Federer +1800
  • Murray +2500
  • Del Potro +7000
  • Ferrer +8000
  • Soderling +8500
  • Melzer +25000
  • Almagro +25500
  • Gasquet +25500

As you can see there is a lot of money to be made wagering on anyone other than the top 2 favourites if an upset victory is in the cards in Paris!

On the women’s side the tournament is much more wide open, especially because both the Williams sisters will be sitting this one out due to injury.  Francesca Schiavone won it last year and this year she is coming in at +2200 odds.  There are no dominant players in women’s tennis this year, which means this tournament is really up for grabs.  Here are the odds:

  • Wozniacki +520
  • Azarenka +525
  • Sharapova +800
  • Clijsters +1000
  • Stosur +1000
  • Kvitova +1000
  • Zvonareva +1100
  • Goerges +1700
  • Jankovic +1900
  • Schiavone +2200

Clijsters has not played a clay court tournament this season, which is why her line is so long, but I still think she has the experience to take down this tournament at the long odds.  If I was to choose one player that had value there it would have to be Clijsters.

I have found that 5Dimes is the best place to bet on the French Open because they offer the best lines for every match and also offer reduced juice for Grand Slam matches every day throughout the tournament.  Check out our tennis betting tips page for a few pointers if you intend to bet on the French Open.  Check out our sister site http://www.onlinetennisbetting.com for more French Open betting information.
